It would have been nice if BNHA did anything interesting with the moral dilemma presented by the noumu. Are the high-end ones cognizant enough to be technically alive? If they are “alive”, then is killing one murder? What are the ethical implications of imprisoning a noumu whose host has some degree of consciousness but whose crimes were the result of puppeteering like Shirakumo/Kurogiri. Are at least some of them people the heroes should consider in who should be saved? What went wrong in their society that such a large group of people could go missing and no one looked into it until a mad scientist had a lab full of monstrosities?
Unfortunately, this dilemma never seems to expand beyond Kurogiri, Aizawa, and Present Mic. It’s a loud silence considering the prevalence of antagonist noumus and the overall themes of bodily autonomy and saving even villains in this manga.
