Chapter 9
Another thing about Katara's ladies in waiting is they love to play a game. And there is no better game they can play than a bat of an eyelash or a well-placed laugh.

Money:
“Don’t cry for me, Lady.” She pulls back from her and gives her a small smile, “I’m only a servant, I’m replaceable.”
Anger flashed in the Lady’s bright eyes, “Don’t say such things, no one is replaceable.” Gone is her calm, assuring tone, “Have you seen anyone about your injures?”
Minzhi has to hide a bitter laugh as she says, “With what money, my husband’s out of work. I barely make enough for the two of us.”
This is from Alone, Together which is a neat undercover spy au I’ve been working on for a while. The Lady in question is Katara ofc. I have about three chapters of this planned with it all outlined!
Waves:
The wind pushes droplets off the sea, the salty water collides with her face and reminds her of home. Her heart weeps at the thought of the land of ice and snow, how very far she is from that.
The alien environment in front of her only increases her anxiety yet Katara finds solace watching waves hit the bow of the ship. With each crash, a minute tremor is felt along with the boat. Reminding her how powerful her element is, how powerful she is.
She wipes at the moisture collecting on her silks, knowing her handmaidens will be far from pleased. But she has no sympathy for them since there must be a law somewhere against keeping a bender away from their element. But that important aspect of her is always a third or fourth thought, even at that.
This is from bones of an elder god, and trust me I have not forgotten about. I have just been more focused with other WIPs but I do plan to return to it in the near future, don’t worry.
