Okay but why does almost every MC react like this when meeting the LIs nowadays?
After having finished Do No Harm (both 1 and 2) and Boardroom Alpha, I have to say I’m amazed at how truly Nothing they both are.
Do No Harm, I think, had more substance. I didn’t pay for any of the diamond options, obviously, but there was a bit of worldbuilding and lore when it came to the Families, and some character when it came to the MC and Dom. Not a lot of character, but it was there. Their relationship progressed kinda fast, yeah, similar to a lot of other modern single-LI Choices books, but not, like, egregiously fast.
The ending was rushed as hell, though. But I guess that’s fine, because the whole thing was rushed. Whatever. The plot was kinda cohesive at least. 4/10 stars.
Boardroom Alpha suffered pretty similarly. How are you gonna throw all these different supernaturals together in this corporation and then proceed to do NOTHING with them? Hell, why even have the corporation and office subplot in the first place, since it amounted to pretty much nothing?
Ugh.
And then the pacing with Blackwood’s romance. I couldn’t even tell you the timeframe of the story. Does it take place in a matter of days? Weeks? Months? Because I’m pretty sure the MC and Blackwood meet, start working together, and fall hopelessly in love in a matter of literal days.
So we’ve got a poorly-paced romance and a shoddy main plot that gets tossed to the side at the very last minute, because 1. Blackwood’s brother suddenly shows up even though he has no stake in the story whatsoever and doesn’t impact it in any way, and 2. some random shapeshifter is plotting to kill Blackwood for reasons (which I do not know). Yes, the Big Bad is some random fuck who, again, had no stake in the story prior. There’s not even a damn fandom page for the shapeshifter!
0.5/10 stars. I don’t think I’ve ever given anything half a star before. This story wasn’t boring or obnoxious like some others. It was just plain messy and had no direction, no consistency, disappearing side characters and subplots, and magically conjured side characters and subplots that the “writer” pulled out of their ass.
Do No Harm definitely had AI involvement in its writing, but it felt organic in some places.
On the flip side, I’m convinced Boardroom Alpha was entirely AI-written. Frankly, I’d be shocked if parts of it weren’t.

So, it's like with TV shows. We'll likely get to play a couple of chapters and when enough players approve them then they could be turned into full length books.
