Do Not Put Your Trust in Mystical Objects or Political Rulers
Three reports published in August 2026 have raised an unusual spiritual question about Donald Trump. i24NEWS reported on August 9 that Trump's former wife, Marla Maples, said Trump keeps the Book of Pinchas, a section of the Zohar written in Aramaic, under his clothing close to his heart for what she described as "protection and healing." Israel National News reported the same claim, saying Maples told Israel's Channel 12 that Trump carries the Zohar over his heart.
The Jewish Chronicle reported the story somewhat more cautiously. Its August 10 article says Maples claimed Trump carried the Kabbalah text in his jacket close to his heart during their marriage, which lasted from 1993 to 1999. According to that report, she said he kept the Book of Pinchas under his clothing for "protection and healing."
Christians should be careful with the facts. These articles establish that Marla Maples made this claim. They do not, by themselves, independently prove that Trump currently carries the Zohar or establish everything about his present spiritual beliefs. We should not bear false witness or turn an unverified claim into something stronger than the evidence allows.
But if someone is carrying a religious or mystical text against his body because he believes the physical object provides protection or healing, Christians should immediately recognize a biblical problem. Our protection does not come from carrying a mystical object close to our heart. Our trust belongs to God.
"The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust." Psalm 18:2, KJV
The Bible does not tell Christians to place their confidence in mystical writings, charms, objects, politicians, presidents, kings, armies, or anything else created by human hands.
"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." Psalm 20:7, KJV
And Scripture warns us:
"Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help." Psalm 146:3, KJV
That warning applies especially when Christians begin treating a political leader as spiritually chosen, uniquely protected, divinely anointed, or necessary for the salvation of a nation. Donald Trump cannot save America. No Republican can save America. No Democrat can save America. No mystical object can save anyone.
Only Jesus Christ saves.
The Gospel is not faith in Trump. It is not faith in conservative politics. It is not faith in Kabbalah. It is not faith in America. Paul tells us what the Gospel is:
"Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, KJV
The Zohar is a foundational text of Jewish mystical tradition, and the articles specifically connect the Book of Pinchas with Kabbalah. i24NEWS also reports that Maples described her own longstanding involvement with Kabbalah, Judaism, Israel, kosher observance and Shabbat. Israel National News similarly reports that she described herself as a longtime student of an ancient mystic at the Kabbalah Centre.
This is not a reason for Christians to attack Jewish people. Antisemitism is evil, and Jews should not be blamed for what one politician or his former wife reportedly practices. The issue for Christians is much simpler: Where is our spiritual trust placed?
Scripture tells us:
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God." 1 John 4:1, KJV
Test every spiritual claim. Test every prophet. Test every preacher. Test every politician. Test every mystical practice. Test the people who tell you Trump is God's anointed. Test those who claim God chose him to restore America. Test everything by Jesus Christ and Scripture.
Paul warns:
"And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light." 2 Corinthians 11:14, KJV
Something appearing spiritual does not automatically mean it comes from God. Something being ancient does not make it true. Something being connected with religion does not make it holy. A person talking about God does not mean that person is following Jesus Christ.
Jesus warned:
"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders." Matthew 24:24, KJV
That is why Christians must stop judging spiritual truth according to political loyalty. If Christians would question a Democrat carrying a mystical object for supernatural protection, they should apply the same biblical standard to Donald Trump. Christianity does not have one standard for Republicans and another for everybody else.
There is also an important contrast in these reports. The Jewish Chronicle says Maples described both herself and Trump as Christian while discussing Trump's reported use of a Kabbalah text for protection. Calling ourselves Christian does not settle the matter. Jesus said:
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 7:21, KJV
Christianity is not a label. Christianity is not wearing religious symbols. Christianity is not having pastors pray over you at political rallies. Christianity is not holding a Bible for photographs. Christianity is not carrying another religious text over your heart.
The question is whether our faith is actually in Jesus Christ.
Our physical heart does not need a mystical book pressed against it for spiritual protection. Our spiritual heart needs Christ.
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding." Proverbs 3:5, KJV
And Christians should especially remember this when political movements begin portraying powerful men as vessels of divine protection or destiny. The answer is not to replace one form of political idolatry with superstition or another form of mysticism.
Turn to Jesus.
Jesus is our salvation.
Jesus is our mediator.
Jesus is our peace.
Jesus is our hope.
Jesus is our King.
"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5, KJV
Whether Marla Maples' claim describes something Trump did decades ago or something he continues doing today, Christians do not need to exaggerate the report to make the biblical point. The articles themselves give us enough reason to examine where people place their trust. i24NEWS and Israel National News describe Maples as saying Trump carries the Zohar for protection and healing, while The Jewish Chronicle places the practice specifically during their marriage. That distinction matters.
Do not put your trust in mystical objects.
Do not put your trust in princes.
Do not put your trust in political movements.
Do not turn Donald Trump or any other political ruler into a spiritual savior.
Put your trust in Jesus Christ alone.
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12, KJV
