There’s a boat lock in Utrecht that’s closed during spring… but the fish are trying to migrate upstream to go breed! What to do? Well, how about a live webcam that watches the water and when the majority of people viewing it hit the doorbell button, it opens the “door” (boat lock) for the fish!

This is important because if the fish are waiting for the door to open for too long, predators will take advantage of a crowd of waiting fish and chow down before they’ve had a chance to go spawn!

So not only is this a very chill stream to watch (hah, STREAM!), but you can help the animals!!!

Watched a boat go through the lock at Iroquois on the St Lawrence, the boat was from Singapore.

One of the locks at the Ballard Locks is under repair, and will be closed for several months.  They are over 100 years old and actually could use about $40 million in upgrades but for now one is getting a much-needed new valve.  

Seeing an entirely dry boat lock is an uncommon sight, and the one thing that really struck me was seeing that port-a-john down in there.  The two workers just below the walkway on the air-lift were using high-pressure water to remove barnacles from the lock walls.
