Day in Fandom History: February 12…
It's Valentine's Day, and the Belchers are tied in their own Valentine's subplots with Tina having diarrhea, Gene making chocolate, Bob trying to impress Linda through dance, and Louise trying to avoid Rudy. The fourth Valentine’s Day-themed episode of Bob’s Burgers and the Emmy award-winning Episode, “Bob Actually,” premiered on this day, 9 Years Ago.
OH MY GOD THEIR HEADS (and louise's arms) ARE FORMING A HEART!!! THIS IS INSANE?!?!
And the bunny ears are kinda like an arrow that hit Louise. A Cupid's arrow...
Did anyone notice this before??
Top 5 Bob’s Burgers episodes
So this question is like 60% easy. I have a pretty solid top 3 and then a 100 or so episodes I could give the last spots to depending on what's on my mind that day.
"Boyz 4 Now": If I had only one chance to show a "Bob's Burgers" episode to someone to get them to like the show, this would be my choice. I think it is the show at it's best. It's very funny but also has a real emotional core. In both the main storyline and the tablescaping subplot, we see the Belchers at their finest: weird and completly devoted to and supportive of eachother. I would start listing my favorite moments and lines but I would end up just writing the whole script.
"Bob Actually": Not just because of the Roudise kiss! I actually think the structure of this episode is amazing: they give each of the Belchers their own story and every one of those stories is great! There is a great running gag with Miss Labonz. Two hilarious new characters are introduced (Flips Whitefudge and Chloe Barbash). Hell, even Coach Blevins gets a really funny line! ("Okay, class, today we'll be dissecting a banana. We only have two, so break into groups of 13.")
"The Amazing Rudy": It is one of the weirdest and most beautiful things in the world when you encounter a piece of popular art or entertainment that was made by strangers but feels like it was made specifically for you. That's what this episode is to me. Rudy's story in this episode made me feel seen and was part of a process of me finally starting to heal my decades-old child of divorce pain.
"O.T.: The Outside Toilet": Well, that last entry was way too serious and personal, so let's talk about a talking toilet voiced by Jon Hamm! This episode is non-stop hilarious and I think of so many jokes from it on a regular basis. (Linda calling a taxi a "snackie" and a "snatchie", "Playing artist Eddie Money", "Everybody close your eyes and believe!", and, of course, the debut of the Bob Burger running gag...)
"The Kids Rob A Train": Very funny, and a pivotal episode in the transition of Rudy from being a minor recurring character to part of the Belcher kids' friend group. Whenever I am on a train and it is going slow, I think of Bob and his friendship with Ramon the bike riding boy.
5 days until its not weird for me to watch bob actually three times in one day!!!!! <3
Damnit, Rudy
Valentine's Day - 4th grade
Louise still couldn't quite believe that she was wrong about Rudy's crush. Who else could he have been talking about with Zeke? Who else would he even want to give love weeds to? It was supposed to be her, wasn't it? Of course it was going to be Louise. They're best friends! Rudy was going to give her love weeds on stupid Valentine's Day—she was so sure of it, all morning.
But the thought of receiving them scared her, and she tried to prevent it as best she could. So when Rudy finally told her the love weeds were for Chloe, not Louise, shouldn't that have been a...relief? But it wasn't. Instead, Louise saw her own feelings etched onto the face of her best friend in the playground after school, when she finally got through to him that Chloe didn't like him—that she'd been using him.
AWLRIGHTTT, just a quick reminder that on this day, "bob actually" released ❤️ how do you feel about this special episode?
*sigh*
Well, you asked for this!
This episode means a lot to me. Weird, a silly Valentine's episode from an adult cartoon means more to me than my childhood pet. No joke!
Bob Actually has to be hands down my favourite Bob's Burgers episode ever. Now I feel some of you reading this going: Oh Devil, you only like it because of the ROUDISE! And you would be correct to some degree. However, this episode is so much more than a shipping moment.
I love the storylines throughout the episode, how they all interlink and create an overall message of love and acceptance, and that nothing can stop love. Now I haven't watched Love Actually (SCANDALOUS) but it's probably similar and they have taken inspiration from it for this episode. Putting that aside, it was still the most plotlines we have ever had in a BB episode, and they did it so well. We had Tina's storyline with her diarrhoea and her sky kiss with JJ, Bob and Teddy taking a dance class with 'Hip Hop' teacher Shelly and Flips White Fudge (Funniest side character ever), Gene with Isabella making Chocolate, Dark chocolate. Linda and Miss Selbo, an underrated and quirky pair that we see again in season 13. And of course Louise, Rudy and Chloe Barbash, and how jealous and protective Louise gets over her friend.
All of these storylines were hilarious and balanced the episode out perfectly. OH and how could I forget Speedo Guy and Mermaid-Unicycle Girl!
This was the first episode I ever saw of Bob's so I may look at this episode through Rose-tinted glasses, but I don't care. I still enjoy the episode to this day, and that's all that matters, isn't it? It's a timeless classic.
Of course, Louise and Rudy were a massive part of this, and they were the first ship that I ever drew fanart for. And just for Lols here is my first fanart of them compared to my latest:
2019 - 2024... Crazy right.
These two got me to where I am today! An awesome YouTube channel where I met a ton of amazing people, I literally found some friends for life on there. Some amazing mutuals on here and Insta sharing my passion for these little dweebs. And then finally creating art for others and starting up my own projects. I mean it gets me emotional sometimes...
AND THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF THAT EPISODE.
So yeah I love Bob Actually... And I have watched it many (20) times, and I will be watching it again tonight.
Thank you for the ask <3
