Vervain: What's your aesthetic?
the dervish in duende. dhikr-tongued.
Ulysses: Do you feel as if you take enough risks?
yes, mostly i do. it comes from being easily bored by stability of any permanent structure. it is a constant tandav.
Sailing: Is "write what you know" good advice?
partly yes, partly no. in terms of misappropriating marginalized identities, i do believe that certain privileged sections of the population should avoid writing about what they don’t experience or know.. however if take out the fetishistic leanings, and look at it from a political lens (which literature can’t seem to escape), i believe in what elif shafak once said here - http://www.ted.com/talks/elif_shafak_the_politics_of_fiction?language=en

Clover forces its way in, dandelions too dandy lions in smooth green tuxedos Manes aglow in chandelier dandelion chandelier Tops of white frillies honest infiltration frilly white manes in tuxedos Smooth green leaves three three four Meadow speckled lions’ paws munching hungrily clover down all truth and honesty to know is to believe what’s true A dandelion growing lazily grab a dandy lion by his neck slipping your fingers up his long neck until you reach his frilly chandelier Clover in his mouth forcing its way through underfoot frustration A sparkling mass around its face smooth green arms unfolding clover by clover His frilly white head where it shouldn’t be
