Basic Moodboard Tutorial:
1. Get the image you want. You can either do a GIS search and specify the size, or paste it in GIMP to resize it. To do that, right click the image > image > scale image.
2. Once the image is the right size (I use 500 x 300, but you can use whatever size you like), save it as a .png file. To do that, click file > export as. .png is the default export format. They’ll ask for some specifics, but I don’t bother with those, and just click Export.
3. Repeat with as many images as you like! I usually use eight to ten, but it depends on the format you’re using. This particular board uses six.
4. Next, you’ll need to Ctrl + N and open a new file. When asked for the canvas size, you’ll need to do a bit of math. Since I’m using a 500 x 300 image with two columns and three rows, I’ll need mine to be 1000px wide (500 x 2) and 900px tall (300 x 3).
5. This next part is tricky. You’ll want to set up the grid. To get to the grid configuration, go to image > configure grid.
Each grid box should be the size of an individual image. To do that, click the little chain and unlink it, then enter the appropriate numbers.
6. Next, you’ll want to make the grid visible. Under View, click Show Grid, Snap To Grid, and Snap to Canvas Edges. The latter two will keep your board from having white space between images.
7. Import the images to the new canvas. File > Open As Layers.
8. Arrange the images the way you like! If you can’t move them around, make sure Layer is selected under the Move Tool options, like this.
That will ensure that you can move the layer just by clicking on it.
9. Once it’s all the way you want it, flatten the image. Right click > Image > Flatten Image.
11. With the background layer (with all the pictures) selected, use the color-pick tool to select a color.
12. Go back to the new layer, and use the paint-bucket tool to fill it up. At this point, it will look something like this.
13. To turn this from a block of color into a unifying color-layer, click the arrow next to Mode: Normal above the layer box, and select Hue.
14. To keep it from looking super off-color, adjust the opacity to what looks good to you.
15. Flatten the image, export it, and upload it to Tumblr!
