In anticipation of the two-parter coming up: I know that it might not feel like things are going our way. But remember they've been setting this up since season two. How did Bobby walk into the station on Eddie's first day? Indescribably happy, because Bobby had convinced him to join the 118. He may not have understood his feelings for six more years, but we'll get there.
2025 is our year!
I TOLD Y'ALL IT WOULD HAPPEN. IT WAS IN THE SONG.
"No grave can hold my Boddie down"
Right now, Bobby Nash is putting together fake identity documents so he can run off to El Paso and marry Eddie if you even CARE.
The extra minute in the timeslot this week is where they set up Boddie.
Picture it, El Paso, late 2025:
Eddie Diaz is FaceTiming with Evan Buckley, they're talking about the last unlikely disaster to hit Los Angeles. As Buck is explaining just how the swarm of plague infected howler monkeys stopped traffic on the 405 for a week, how they stole Tommy's helicopter, and why they kidnapped Ravi for ransom, he hears someone in the background of the call and asks Eddie if it's Chris and if he can say hi. Eddie starts talking loudly about how crazy that story is, Buck, wow, but he really needs to go because the stove is on fire and the sink is flooding.
He hangs up and looks at Bobby Nash, who's sheepishly standing in the doorway. Eddie has a lightbulb moment. He's already met his dead wife's lookalike, who's to say he can't run into a guy who looks like his old dead boss in El Paso? Who's to say they can't fall in love?
And that's how Peter Krause is going to stay on 911 for season 9.
Bobby's recklessness this ep was because he knows something's missing in his life and he's trying to get Eddie's attention. He's basically daring Eddie to come back to keep the 118 from doing anything too crazy, but when that doesn't work then he's going to fake his death and move to El Paso.
And THAT'S how Boddie wins.
