Everything is Somewhat Repaired: Airports Part 1 Cw: security, Spiders, Body Searches, Skeletons, Miscellaneous contraband
Last year I flew to greece and decided to dress as ambiguously as possible. A sports bra, baggy sweatshirt, leggings and shorts. Something loosely corresponding to the gender marker in my old passport. But in my head I knew I was dressed like a "tomboy" presenter on an 80s kids show.
I dread the body scanners at airports. Those giant X-ray machines tell the security people that My body has more parts than other bodies. My anatomical abundance sparks suspicion.
Obviously the man at the screen flagged me for a pat down and a male security guard came over to check on what I was carrying under my clothes. I braced myself for something intrusive.
But like people say about spiders, this poor fella was more scared of me than I was of him. He gingerly brushed the outside of my sleeves and hurried me along. Saved by my own monstrosity.
