Summary: The 15th member of the company is a fairy with healing abilities. One dwarf particulary smitten with you. Doing everything to make you bashful and smile. Growing closer to each other till the end.
Bilbo already had enough. House filled with dwarves he didn’t invite. Noisy, his house had never been this noisy. Loud chattering and laughter everywhere. No matter in what room he ventured, he couldn’t escape the dwarves. Swarming over his house. Bilbo had been shouting for some time now. Ordering the dwarves to be gentle with his materials and have some respect for his home.
On the brink of a headache, he sighed loud. Going over to Gandalf. – “Gandalf please, why are these dwarves at my home?” – he begged to know. Wondering what the wizard was keeping from him. Gandalf was smoking his pipe, whispering counts. Muttering them out as a bit of smoke left his mouth.
“One short… yes one short…” – talking to himself. Bilbo caught snippets of it, blinking surprised. – “What? More? There are more to come… Gandalf!” – calling out to the wizard to put an end to this. One of the dwarves came passing by, holding all his cheese. – “What no! no!” – Bilbo called out, going after him.
More dwarves passing him with food or drinks. All coming from his supply closet. Pinching his nose, he felt invisible. No one listening to him. Pressing his fists against his eye sockets, he wanted this nightmare to be over. To simply open his eyes and see no more dwarves. Everything back in order and surrounded by peace and quiet.
Sudden knocks at the door, made him turn his head frantically. – “There’s someone at the door, little man.” – one of the dwarves called out, munching on some bread. Bilbo sighed deep to compose himself. Inhaling sharply though his nose, he was going to show this dwarf he didn’t like to be trifled with. With a sturdy walk, he went for the door.
Chest puffing up, opening it, ready to throw his best accusation at the newest dwarf. Yet when he caught eyes of who was at his door, he swallowed his words back in. Blinking flustered at a girl. A girl about his size. Looking wonderous around.
“I… uhm… hello.” – he stumbled out, closing his coat. – “I hope I’m not too late.” – you answered, trying to have a peek inside. Bilbo fell speechless, not having expected to find a girl at his doorstep. Feeling a tall presence behind him, drew the conversation away from him. – “Gandalf!”- you called out in absolute bliss.
Moving past the hobbit to hug the wizard. Gandalf placed a hand on your back, chuckling amusingly. Gandalf then knelt down, keeping a hand on your shoulder. – “It’s been a long time, my old friend.” – he spoke. You smiled, bowing your head at the Mithrandir. – “Come, come, meet the other members.” – getting back up, he maintained his hand on your back.
Guiding you deeper into the hobbit’s hole. Bilbo closing the door, still baffled. Already hearing the commotion, made you swallow nervously. Gandalf picking up on it. – “Do not worry my friend. They are quite nice, loud but nice.” – he reassured you.
The hobbit came at your side as you stood in the opening. Eyes widening at the dwarves being very loud over diner. Food being tossed around. Beer slipping on the table. Loud laughter and enthusiastic movements. Bilbo nearly fainted at the sight of it.
All too occupied to notice the newest member arriving by Gandalf and Bilbo’s side. All but one dwarf, who’s gaze went towards you. Lowering his pint with wonder in his eyes. – “She’s a fairy!” – he exclaimed with a point. His fellow dwarves, stopping their loudness and look. Staring stunned at the girl in their midst.
You looked up to Gandalf, feeling too shy to speak. Gandalf briefly nodded his head. – “This is our 15th member, Y/n.” – Gandalf introduced you. The one that had pointed to you, immediately knocked a fellow dwarf off his seat. Shoving the chair back, gesturing for you to sit.
Looking hesitantly back at Gandalf, you awaited approval or something. He gave you a little nudge. – “Hey!” – the blonde dwarf called out annoyed. The other dwarf, waving his comment away. Following your step with gleaming eyes. You came around the table, joining him by his side. He leaned his chin on his hand, staring fondly back at you. – “You’re pretty.” – he sighed out with bliss.
It made you look shy down, fumbling your hands underneath the table. Seeing how your ears went pink made him curl up a smile. – “Is it true you are a fairy?” – another dwarf asked, this one looking much younger. You hummed loud with a nod. – “I’ve never met a fairy.” – he added. – “I’ve never met a dwarf.” – you responded.
The other dwarf noticed he was taking your attention away, making him shove some bread in his mouth. – “I’m Bofur.” – he introduced himself, turning your attention back at him. – “I’ve read fairies have special abilities is that true?” – Bofur asked. You hummed again. – “I can heal…”
The feast was a delight as you had never been in such enthusiastic company. Their presence felt like a warm embrace. A call to home. Something rarely seen amongst fairies. Who took about their days mostly alone. Coming together when needed, but much keeping to themselves and connect with nature. Bofur nudged you on the elbow.
“You are in for a treat, Y/n.” – he spoke adding a wink to his words. The gesture alone made you bashful. You gasped surprised when they started stomping their fork and knives against the wooden table. Synchronizing their ways before they started to sing. Their song going faster and faster as plates and cups were being thrown in the air. Caught by several dwarfs, making a line towards the sink.
You got up as well, staring in wonder as plates got tossed around over your head. Locking eyes with Bofur playing the flute. You started clapping along, filled with happiness. For they could make anything more fun. Company setting out for adventure.
With wide eyes and trembling hands you held onto the reigns of the pony. You were familiar with animals, but you had never sat on one. Bilbo seemed to have the same experience. Trotting by with soft anxious yelps. You kicked the horse to make a move on.
Even clicking your tongue to get it moving. No matter what you tried, your pony appeared to be stubborn. Lowering his head as it nearly made you flung over his head to eat some grass. Kicking him more with groans, you saw the company moving forwards. Not wanting to be left forgotten. Giving it a few more kicks, you groaned loud at it.
Hearing another horses neighs, made you look over your shoulder. Bofur approaching with his pony. – “Need a hand, lovely Y/n?” – he said with a smirk. Keeping an eye on your ears as they turned a shade of pink once more. Satisfying him that he could make you feel shy around him. – “He… he’s not going forwards.” – you responded with a sigh.
Bofur leaned down to take the reigns of your pony. Giving his horse a kick so it walked. Still holding your reins, your pony followed. – “Thank you Bofur.” – you spoke with a relieved smile. – “It’s a little trick. Horses are pack animals. They will follow those who guide.” – he explained to you.
Smiling shyly at him, you tugged some hair behind your elvish ear. It made Bofur blink with fondness back at you. Bofur staid by your side while the others were riding up ahead. He got up in his saddle, reaching for a branch. Giving it a few good shakes, leaves dartled down. Falling on your head as it made you laugh.
Hearing you laugh warmed his heart. He shared all his knowledge with you about nature. About his previous adventures and of his home. Erebor. You told Bofur on your turn about your home. You yawned when the sun was setting.
Leaving an orange glow over the horizon. Bofur offered for you to ride with him so you could rest a bit. So you did. Getting on his pony. Sitting behind him with your arms around him. Head resting against his shoulder. His soothing voice helping you rest a bit.
When he arrived at the stop, the others wondered where you were. Bofur grinned from ear to ear, turning his pony a bit around for them to see you behind him. Most of them chuckled others calling him sneaky. Fili and Kili helped you down after waking you. Assisting you to a good spot to continue your rest.
Sweetness made way for terror. Hunted down by orcs. Persistent to prevent the dwarves from reaching the mountains. Bofur had taken your hand, running with you through the woods. Huffing and panting loud with each step. His eyes widened when he reached the edge of a cliff. The others joining as well. Petrified there was no way out.
Bofur moved to the front, pulling you behind him. Arms wide open for protection. – “Into the trees!” – Gandalf ordered. Bofur took your hand again, pulling you towards them. Giving you an assist to grab for a branch. Coming right behind you. Your foot slipped as he gasped loud.
Fili who was closest to your level, grabbed a hold of your clothing. Keeping you up till you found grip once more. Assisting you to one of the tops, finding shelter there. Grabbing on tight as the orcs had swarmed around. Wargs biting and jumping up to try and climb the trees.
Screaming loud when your branch started to shake from their disturbance. – “Y/n!” – Gandalf called out to you. Looking behind you, you saw him with a pinecone in his hand. Tossing at you as the top was lit up with fire.
You caught it, letting it balance a few times in your hand to avoid burns. Fili brought his pinecone closer to yours to get the fire over. Once his pinecone lit, you moved to the other side to assist Bofur. Lighting his pinecone before throwing yours at the Wargs. Calling it out in excitement when yours hit one right in the nose.
Pinecone after pinecone being thrown at them. Setting the trees and plains on fire. Sweating, you climbed higher. Whistling loud at the sight of the eagles. Carefully picked up. Carrying you all to safety.
On the rocks, you shared some hugs with the dwarves and Bilbo. – “It’s just a scratch.” – you suddenly heard. Making you move some friends aside. Seeing Bofur by Bombur’s side. Covering his arm up with his hand. You hastened over to him. – “Let me see.” – you ordered. Bofur turning his arm away from you.
“No… it’s nothing Y/n.” – he insisted upon. – “Bofur, let me see!” – putting your foot down that he needed to obey you. Swallowing nervously, he gave in. Removing his hand, revealing a burnt on his arm. Shooting him a glare, you weren’t pleased that he tried to hide this from you. He chuckled nervously from your glare.
Pressing your hand over his burnt, you focused. A coolness coming from your palm along with a soft glow. Bofur staring in wonder. Once your hand was off, there was not a sight anymore of his pain. Your ears turned pink once more when he wrapped his arms around you. Leaving a tender kiss on your cheek as a thank you. Cheeks burning up too at his affection.
Bombur nudged him with a cheeky glance. Bofur giving him a playful shove back to annoy him back. That night when you made camp, Bofur approached you nervously. – “May… may I join you Y/n?” – he asked. You hummed loud, making some room for him. He exhaled loud coming to sit with you.
You continued to unroll your blanket to lay upon. Bofur staring back at you. – “Y/n?” – he asked. You hummed loud, surprising him with a quick kiss on his cheek. That made him smile goofily. His gaze fell on your hair, clearing his throat nervously. – “Is… is something the matter Bofur?” – questioning at his sudden silence. – “May I?” – Bofur gestured at your hair.
“Oh.” – touching your hair, you felt shy, but accepted. Coming to sit in front of him. Bofur standing on his knees, still a head higher than you. Taking your hair, he started braiding it. Noticing his kin snickering and giving him proud nods. Bofur smiled sheepishly back that his kin was being very supportive. When he laid the final braid, he leaned down to leave a tender kiss on your shoulder.
That night you slept in each other’s arms. Giving in to the words in your hearts. Journey continuing to the mountain. A journey full of adventure and fights. Though decisions and hurt. As been foretold the sun always shines after darkness. The mountain reclaimed.
The quest fulfilled. Having spent much time with the dwarves, you didn’t wish to part from them. Settling in with them. Joining Bofur in harmony. Taking you as his in a union. His kin couldn’t be more happier. For Bofur had found his one to share a lifetime with.
