the three of you had always been close, growing up together in colony 4, inseparable even when ethel became the commander and bolearis and you were made her right hand men

you always assumed the deep bond you have to be a friendship that was just simply stronger than the average friendship

yet when you were freed by the flame clock and learned about the concept of ‘love’, you started to suspect that perhaps that word fit the three of you better

ethel was the first one to suggest trying those things lovers do. she heard about kissing and holding hands from noah, who had found out about it during his visits to the city

physical affection is very awkward at first and you three are never quite sure when it would be appropriate. sometimes you kiss in front of others, other times you're too flustered to hold hands if someone could walk in on you

it really takes a while to feel more natural, like something you want to do, not something you feel forced to do. but once it does, it really becomes enjoyable

cuddling before going to bed is the best way to get ethel to leave her desk in the evening. now she doesn't pull any all-nighters anymore to do paper work!

without having to fight all the time, you suddenly had a lot of time on your hands that you could use to spend time with each other

you were going out together, enjoying your life as a normal couple

until ethel passed and bolearis suddenly became the commander of colony 4

now he was busy keeping the colony alive without ethel, hardly even getting to see you anymore with all those commander duties on his plate

though you tried to help him out wherever you could

you helped with any missions that were suitable for your skillset, you made sure he got enough sleep and you always snuck out an extra plate of food for your boyfriend, when he was too busy to get something to eat himself

while the first few days and weeks were pretty hard, you two slowly adjusted to the new situation

you managed to find time between work to go out occasionally, trying to be a normal couple despite all your duties
