"Breaking In" and "Making Out"

Learnt that tip while studying chemistry. Without context, this is basically sexual harassment and possibly borderline rape.

But here's the context:

When bonds between atoms are broken, energy is absorbed (goes in). And when bonds between atoms are broken, energy is released (goes out)

But anyway, thank you chem for giving me this one context-required quote

Average Bond Enthalpies

This is the average enthalpy change required to break 1 mole of a given type of bond by homolytic fission in the molecules of a gaseous species. What does this mean?! The energy required to break 1 mole of the bond given, ie O-H, in all the gaseous molecules of a chemical. The "Average" part comes in when you have polyatomic molecules such as CH4. The energy required to break each of the C-H bonds differs, so you find an average.

Question on Thermochemistry

AB, A2 and B2 are diatomic molecules. If the bond enthalpies of A2, AB & B2 are in the ratio 1:1:0.5 and enthalpy of formation of AB from A2 and B2 is –100 kJ/mol–1 , what is the bond enthalpy of A2?
