Day 7: sword

Name: Bone Glass
Source: Lockwood & Co.
Entity: The End
Category: Artefact
Description: Created by Edmund Bickerstaff in 1877, the bone glass is a mirror whose rim contains the bones from 7 people, their souls trapped within. The concentrated essence of these souls allows a large enough gateway for the living to have a glimpse into the Other Side. It was said to show enlightenment to whoever looked into it, but would cause death shortly after. Those who did survive were driven mad. One glimpse would cause the victim to become obsessed with it, with a voice whispering "Look, look. I give you your heart's desire." whenever the bone glass was near, with said victim doing anything to have another look. There are elements of the Spiral with this ability to drive victims mad, as well as the Corruption, with the element of obsession, plus the constant, nauseating drone of flies that any Sensitives hear when near it. However, given it was forged by basically an avatar of the End using other people's bones, it being a gateway to the realm of the dead and its ability to kill with a look, the bone glass is first and foremost an artefact of the End.
“As I stared at the apparition, I saw that the cowl had drawn back, leaving the doctor’s face exposed. Yes, it was hideous and snarling; yes, the teeth were sharp and the eyes were like black coins, but—with the hood off—it was just a man’s face, after all. A stupid, obsessive man, who, to make himself feel important, had liked to dress in eerie robes. Who had sought answers to things he shouldn’t know, but had been too scared to look himself. Who had used others—both in life, and now in death. Was his voice hypnotic? Perhaps to some, but not to me. I’d had enough of him.”
Lucy Carlyle, Jonathan Stroud, "The Whispering Skull"
so i know the mirror isnt actually a mirror but all the filmography surrounding george and mirrors is fantastic actually, theres pamela who is also intrigued so she doesnt really count but theres rarely any other instances, aside from when lucy brushes her hair that one time, the only other time someone is shown in a mirror is when lucy and lockwood are looking for george
also mary dulac mustve been mad powerful to be as sane as she was after she was forced to full on stare into the bone glass for who knows how long
no offense to the bone glass like i know its super important and helps set up the storyline for later but i love the annabel case so much more
