this card is based on Pierre-Simon Laplace, a French polymath who made contributions to the fields of probabily, statistics, the stabalisation of the solar system, he predicted the black hole (arguably the coolest thing he has done), Laplace's theory of ocean tides predicted the large amphidromic systems in the world's ocean basins, he made speherical harmonics, and so many, many, many other things.

the design of the monster itself is probably a reference to Laplace's demon:

if a being with infinite intellect would know the position of every atom in the universe as well as the laws that govern physics, it could analyse all the data and from it, it would know the future with full certeinity and the idea of 'chance' would not exist for it

Laplace's demon is the philosophy of determinism taken to the extreme
