NYU TEAM JANET: BONE MARROW DRIVE TO SAVE A LIFE
From the president of NYU's Asian Cultural Union, Ben Dumond:
Many of you may have heard about the story of Janet Liang, the UCLA graduate student who has one month left to find a bone marrow donor to fight her leukemia. If you haven't please check out her story or online at www.helpjanet.com and watch her online plea video (heart-wrenching, but it will help you understand why I am doing this).
In response to her story and her video, I decided to host a three-day bone marrow drive (kits provided by the South Asian Marrow Association of Recruiters, SAMAR) on our very own campus in the lobby of Kimmel (NYU), 60 Washington Square South, New York, NY 10012 (212-998-4900) taking place on the following days:
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 29
2:15 pm - 5:15 pm
THURSDAY, MARCH 1
4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FRIDAY, MARCH 2
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Registering to become a bone marrow donor is simple, requiring only a short survey and a painless oral swab test. Given that only 7% of all Asian Americans are registered donors, it has been extremely difficult to find a donor for Janet.
I hope to help save her life in a way that I couldn't save my own best friend from cancer two years ago, but I can't do it alone.
