Another Skin Color Post.
A lot of the time I don’t feel black enough.
I try to communicate with my sisters and brother but there is this gap between us.
A gap that no matter how hard I try, we just don’t click.
We don’t use the similar phrases or what the same shows.
I wasn’t raised like you. I isolated myself and nobody thought that was wrong.
Nobody thought that maybe I should learn to communicate with the people who look like me, the people who get treated like I get treated, the community that knew more about me than I of it.
“You’re just like a little white girl.”
“You talk like your white.”
“What are you talking about”
These words burn me like a thousand coals.
I’m not white
We grew up in different worlds.
I’m not white.
My skin is lighter than yours.
I’m not white.
It took me a long to love who I am but I don’t fit into my community. I’m like a stranger.
