“I’ve fucked everything up,” I’d told ART. This was when I was in Medical after my “incident.” Mensah and I had called Amena so she wouldn’t worry (or at least so she would know that I was still alive, even I know that’s important for human children). I told Mensah I wanted to watch media and she had left, and I’d blocked the humans’ comm and feed access to the room.

ART had said, That’s nothing new.

I ignored that because it was just trying to reassure me. If it started being sympathetic it would be terrifying. “Your crew isn’t going to want me to do their security anymore.”

Why is that?

That question was obviously a trap and I should ignore it. It wasn’t as if I could put the answer into words. I was different. It wasn’t just the alien contamination.

What came out was, “Something in me broke.”

I said I would come back to cubicles after finishing the series and re-reading all systems red sooooo here's my take on repair cubicles v2

that is a fridge

that is where the secunit goes

For this essay I provide the following evidence:

Notes from CTRL-F the books:

cold/no temperature control

“cozy”

plastic "bed"

storage case near it

a door that slides closed

a door that seals once closed

resupply leads and repair leads are separate leads

contains leaking fluids

must be climbed into and out of

secunit lies in the cubicle when watching media

cubicles have an acrid odour

cubicles makes a constant humming noise

no padding in cubicles

cubicles DONT have a platform (table??) like ART's medsystem does

cubicles can be used to transport secunits instead of a transport box

described as "big smooth white boxes"

they can be locked but if power shuts off they can be manually opened from the inside but this breaks the door

they have external emergency data storage displays for if a repair shuts down or has errors

you can't see if a closed and shutdown cubicle contains a secunit until you open them

a human private rest cubicle reminds secunit of a transport box but NOT a repair cubicle.

a dark supply locker reminds secunit of a cubicle. THAT IS A FRIDGE

personal thoughts and wondering:

wouldn’t look like a bed because we don’t want people thinking secunits might be people.

climbed into/out of the cubicle - it is not platform height so there must be an edge or wall...

Possibly make it so a shutdown secunit is more accessible by technicians? lean over to work on them so can't be too deep .

so there's the resupply port and repair port but surely there are more for all the other fluids and stuff .. stored underneath the “bed” of the cubicle? would raise the secunit up a little for technician access.

I think the company would make them as small as possible to save on space because they’re cheap like that and that's why they're cold but "cozy".

don’t like what I’ve seen of repairs on the trailer but idk if that’s just repairs or meant to be the cubicle - just so open and on display while I got impressions it’s more dark and cozy (but cold).

should prob put a this way up on them so when they’re used for transport the secunits don’t end up rattled around upside down

Okay bud, let's hear about your secunit nutrient value headcanons

Yesssssss the tag bait worked!

Okay so if you’ve seen some of my book fanart (on phone too hard to link) my SecUnit has a little white square on the right side of its lower back.

That is its nutritional values and warnings that it is not made for human consumption but can be consumed in an emergency. Then it’s like energy ratings, allergen warnings, microplastic warnings and a few ways to cook it to make it safer.

My thoughts being okay a lot of these SecUnits are being used on planet surveys and mines. You know what happens in both these locations? People get stranded with the equipment. And once the emergency kits run out, they’re going to need a supplementary food source and a SecUnit can remain functional for a long period of time with significant amounts of organics missing.

Of course once rescued you will be charged for consuming bits of your SecUnit, but at a “generous rate”.

And this is why SecUnit doesn’t like to be around humans eating :)

everyone can recognise the arm-weapons as weapons even if never seen a secunit before = equipment warning signs? laser hazard sign? engraved instructions????

hard data can be stored under the arm-weapons = must have a lot of space in there = can see the metal bones when weapons deployed???
