OTP questions for Book/Liara! 1, 5, 15!

Oh gosh, I haven’t written about these two goobers in forever!

1. Who is the happymorning person and who is grumpy and just wants to go back to bed?

Book is definitely the morning person, but she wouldn’tdream of waking Liara before she’s ready. She knows Liara was most likely up late doing Very Important Shadow Broker things and needs the room keptdark and quiet until she’s ready to be alive again. Book usually goes for a runor a workout and by the time she gets back, Liara is grudgingly crawling out of bedto answer the three dozen urgent messages she got while she was sleeping. Bookdoes not miss those days in the least.

5. Where is theirnumber one date spot? Why do they love it so much there?

They usually figure out something to do at home (a special mealthey’ve never had before, watching terrible movies, Athletic Bedroom Time,stuff like that) because when they go out, they inevitably attract attentionthat neither one wants. However, Book would go absolutely stir crazy if they couldn’tdo something together outside the house at least once in a while, so one of their favorite places to blendinto the crowd is Combat Night at Armax Arsenal Arena—but cheering from thecrowd instead of running through the sims. They gotta give others a chance toget on the leaderboard after all :P

15. Who would givethe other their jacket because it’s cold?

Book will always give Liara her jacket, even when it’s notcold. Partly because Book’s cybernetics make her run a little warm since herresurrection. But also, she’s a sentimental sap who likes to see Liara wear herclothes, especially if it’s for comfort. She likes to think that she’s huggingLiara when she wears her jacket <3

Book sounds cute, and I think I need to read up on her and Liara.

I can’t tell you how much I love these two goobers, but sadly, I don’t have any fic for them omg I’M SO DISAPPOINTED WITH MYSELF!

7. “Sleep is for theweak!” VS “Sleep for a week”

Of all my OCs, Book Shepard is absolutely “Sleep is for theweak.” She can be doing so many things besides sleeping! She could be savingthe galaxy from certain destruction! She could be hitting the gym! She could begoing down on Liara! So many options!

On the other hand, God have mercy on anyone who wakesBeatrice Ryder before she’s done sleeping. Many smashed alarm clocks aretestament to her commitment to sleeping for a week. Liam is the only one whocan wake her up early, but that’s only because he knows how ;)

22. Biggest reader VSHasn’t touched a book in 3 years

Dess is definitely the biggest reader of all my OCs. Shereads plenty for her job (even in The Future, people leave paper trails oftheir misdeeds a mile long), but she enjoys reading just about anything. Shefeels compelled to read nonfiction for its usefulness, but her heart is usuallyin space operas and adventure stories.

And Michael is not especially fond of reading. I don’t meanto cast him in a light of ignorance or . . . oh wait, he does that himself.What I mean is he’s a smart dude, and his spacial intelligence, situationalawareness, and ability to recall details are all top shelf. He just gets boredif the only thing he’s doing is reading, regardless of the genre. He only readswhen it’s in service to another task or assignment.

24. Where do theylike to visit?

Book Shepard likes to go where the action is! Big cities,amusement parks, combat simulators, you name it. If it’s a place that can get herblood pumping, she wants to go to there.

27. Can they handletheir feelings in a healthy way?

Of all my Shepards, Book is the most emotionally mature.After her family was killed on Mindoir, she was placed in the care of a fosterparent who was a retired therapist. So, in addition to getting the professionalhelp she needed, she also had a guardian who showed her how to manage heremotions and how to cope and express herself in healthy ways. She might beenergetic and super thirsty for the ladies, but she knows how to acknowledge herfeelings and deal with them appropriately.

30. If they weregoing on a month long vacation, where would they go?

Road trip! Doesn’t matter where it starts or where it ends,and that’s the best part. Maybe it’s driving across the Midwest in NorthAmerica, going from one odd roadside attraction to the next. Maybe it’scrashing at a series of hostels in Europe. Maybe it’s jumping around theAfrican continent and visiting all the places her favorite 21st-century Afrofuturistwriters lived in. Who knows? She certainly doesn’t!

what’s everyone’s favorite weather?

Let’s see, Hannah loves a good, steady rain that’s not too hard, but you still need an umbrella. Michael prefers sunny, hot days with not a cloud in the sky. Dess prefers a cool day with fluffy white clouds in the sky. And Sana loves cold, sunny days, preferably with lots of snow on the ground and in the trees.

Alli, however, is baffled by weather. She much prefers the controlled climate of a space station because it’s predictable and comfortable by design. Weather is the biggest obstacle she has to overcome when she signs up with the Alliance.

Book Shepard loves hot days, as long as it’s a dry heat. Cassandra prefers cool, sunny days.

Artemis Ryder loves dark, stormy weather and has been known to run into a downpour specifically to get drenched in her clothes. Beatrice loves the kind of crisp, cool day that comes halfway through autumn and heralds the oncoming winter. And Calliope loves to watch snow fall and make the world a quieter place.

Hogwarts houses and AU non-military career paths for all Shepards

Yessss! Okay! So, I’m gonna make this an All HP AU, so the nonmilitary careers are also very much wizarding careers :D

Allistair is Ravenclaw to the bone, with Gryffindor as her secondary house. In the wizarding world, she would be an arithmancer.

Book is the most Gryffindor to ever Gryffindor, with Hufflepuff as her secondary house. She would be a dragon researcher, and she and Charlie Weasley would be good friends who try to one-up each other in who can find the bigger dragon.

Cassandra is Slytherin, with a healthy dose of Hufflepuff. She would be a patient advocate at St. Mungo’s.

Hannah Shepard is Hufflepuff who skews slightly Slytherin. She would be an astronomy professor at Hogwarts.

Michael Shepard is equal parts Gryffindor and Slytherin. He would be Death Eater who infiltrated the ranks of Aurors—not because he thinks wizards are superior to muggles, but because he doesn’t trust muggles to not actively seek to destroy the wizarding world if they ever found out about it.

What is the pettiest aspect of each of your Shepards' and Ryders' personalities?

Let’s see...

Allistair Shepard tends to think of herself as the smartest person in the room, and to be fair, she usually is. But if she’s singled a person out as particularly stupid, she’ll elevate her language on purpose to say without saying, “I’m definitely better than you, and you should know it.”

Book Shepard tends to be a cheerful, positive presence, and her parents raised her to believe that if she didn’t have anything nice to say, she shouldn’t say anything at all. They did not, however, say about not being passive aggressive. She’s a master at delivering barbed compliments with a smile that makes you doubt yourself and everything you know.

Cassandra Shepard never forgets. Never.

Artemis Ryder has a tendency toward what-about-isms. She gets flustered when she’s angry or hurt and flounders for ways to express herself, which usually turn out graceless and stammering, despite the feeling behind them.

Beatrice Ryder hates about as many people as she likes, and she makes sure every single one of them knows it. She sees no reason to sugarcoat her feelings if she disrespects a person. If they want her to respect them, they should be better people. So really, if she’s open about disliking a person, she’s actually helping them to be better.

Calliope Ryder doesn’t have a petty bone in her body. Give her time. Being Pathfinder for a few years will change that.

What, if anything, do your assorted Ryders think of the Shepards of their universes? :)

Oh gosh, I should probably assign my Shepards, shouldn’t I. To make things easy, let’s make it alphabetical :P On the one hand, they’re not likely to have had much actual interaction with Shepard, so their opinions would necessarily be based on media coverage.

Artemis and Apollo Ryder

Allistair Shepard: Initially, they think of her as the Butcher because, well, she is. She’s this fierce, domineering, ruthless force out there with blood dripping from her teeth, a monster lurking in the dark. Mostly, they’d like to steer clear from her.

After Alli repels Sovereign from the Citadel, though, they get a different image of her. She becomes the strong, misunderstood, war-wear soldier who puts herself between humanity and annihilation. It’s just too bad the geth finally got her in the end.

Beatrice and Virgil Ryder

Book Shepard: Until Sovereign’s attack on the Citadel, they don’t really think of her. They may have heard of her in passing over some ANN article about a squad of Alliance soldiers taken out by a Thresher maw, but that’s about it.

After the Battle of the Citadel, Shepard makes more of a mark on their awareness of current events. She’s a big presence, strong, beautiful, good with the press, often smiling, larger than life. Virgil is a little more suspicious of Book’s politicking, but Beatrice is enchanted. She joins the Andromeda Initiative partly because she’d like to make Shepard proud (posthumously, that is—damn the geth). 

Calliope and Orlando Ryder

Cassandra Shepard: After the events of Elysium, Calliope and Orlando have stars in their eyes for Shepard. She’s the hero humanity has needed, and isn’t it wonderful she came up through the ranks to beat back the batarian pirates? Anyone can be like Shepard if they really tried! Sure, she’s kind of cold during interviews and tries to keep a low profile, but that’s just the kind of humility you can expect from a hero, right?

Calliope cries real tears when she hears about Shepard being killed by the geth. It’s so hard to think of the Hero of the Citadel being brought down in an ambush like that. Orlando comforts his sister, but he’s no less affected.
