Hey question for fanbinders and bookbinders of Tumblr--
How many pages (as in, page numbers in a digital document, not physical pages) would you say is a reasonable range for a standard hardcover bind, in your experience? Something that could be managed by a person who is pretty new to the craft?
I'm working, slowly, on a typeset for an anthology of short fics I want to make. They're too small to bind individually and I love the idea of having an anthology of all my favourite short pieces. But I also don't want to get too carried away...
next stop on my bookbinding journey is the couple down the street by @godlizzza which was one of my greatest most fun reads ever. i wish it could have gone on forever
You. Guys.
The most amazing thing that has ever happened has happened to me.
I don't know if this author has a Tumblr account or if she wants me advertising her name, but she did give me permission to share the pictures she sent me.
And. They're. Ah. May. Zing!
Look at this freakin' masterpiece!
I am so honoured she chose my story to put into physical form! I look at the page and I think, 'Holy cow! This is what it'd look like if I were a real live author!' and it's very exciting.
Apparently this is the first book she's ever bound. Binded? Book-binded? Book-bound? Well, either way, she did an AMAZING job. I think it looks totally legit. And it's not just because she used my story to do it!!!!
OWL GIFTS for @pineau-noir!
(Creators will be revealed on January 8, 2021.)
Gift from: anon Admire on AO3: Gifts for Molly Summary: Harry and Draco are at the shopping centre picking out Christmas presents for Molly. They get caught on camera after leaving the loos. Quite suspicious. Art Medium: Digital - photoshop. Rating: G Notes: Dear @pineau-noir, you said you liked purple :D so I hope you like this. You're a wonderfully kind person and this isn't good enough for you! ♥
Gift from: anon Read on AO3: I Think He Knows Summary: In which Draco expresses some Big Things and Harry overreacts and has a meltdown (you know, just Harry being Harry). Word Count: 2897 words. Rating: G Notes: Beta by @gallifrey1sburning.
Gift from: anon Be Amazed on AO3: [Ficbinding] In Love With the Ferret Link to Fic: In Love With the Ferret, by @pineau-noir Summary: Harry has never been the most observant bloke. Sometimes to the point of him not realising his feelings for a particular pointy, pale git. And it's not his fault if literally everyone else knows about said feelings except for Harry and the git in question. So it's really not his fault, when faced with the scope of his feelings, he suddenly has a hard time talking to one Draco Malfoy. Or looking him in the eye. Or not being a total weirdo around him. Craft: fanbinding Rating: G for binding | Explicit for fic Contains: Fanfic bound in custom bookcloth and marbled endpapers using a Coptic binding.
Tutorial: making a ficlet booklet a quarter the size of 8.5x11 paper
My first fannish foray into renegade book-binding today! It’s so ugly (no fancy paper, no pictures or imprint, the margins are off, two blank sides have to be glued together & I still gotta bind it) but it’s mine 😎
So here’s how I got it done.
Caffeine High Book - by mtjester
Hi all! So after being inspired by @armoredsuperheavy to bind fanfiction, my first foray into the craft was with @mtjester‘s Caffeine High!
Your favorite place on the ship is a small wing of the upper deck dining hall called a “coffee shop.” You don’t really know much about it, actually, except for the little things you hear now and then. Coffee is a drink from a planet called Earth, as is the alien chained to the counter, who calls itself a “human.” You only know that much because you overheard it say so to an angry highblood once.
It’s an awesome rare-pare fic for the Homestuck fandom. It was my very first fanfic download from the internet because I never wanted to lose it. After receiving her permission to publish, I made the following two copies (one for me [left] and one for the author [right]):
