What were your top five books of the year? Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?

and the book i most wanted to read this year was all the light we cannot see by anthony doerr since it's been on my tbr since... 2014 🙈 but i didn't get around to it for. a number of reasons. ah well, maybe next year!

I am also impressed with the low size of that physical TBR pile. @bibliophilecats what made you pick the percentages of owned books as your guideline?

It just kind of developed? I’ve had my spreadsheet for ages and when I realised my tbr was too much and preventing me from reading I sorted through those books. Then, probably more out of curiosity, I wanted to know the percentage of unread books of my total number of books. The next “milestone” towards lowering my tbr was 20% (it was a little over). And then it developed from there, in 5% steps. I feel like 5% is a good amount of unread books I can handle (this is still over 20 books).

I am so keen for you to sell some prints, or a collection. I enjoy your work a great deal.

Both of them are in the works! I know I keep saying that, so I don’t blame anyone if they don’t trust my it’s coming I promise’s, but it is coming, I promise.

Which makes it even more astonishing that most people on GoodReads are quite harsh in their judgement (and their reviews) and the overall rating is around 3.3 stars. Makes you wonder ...

Author tried to copyright the sun?

long story short:

on twitter, an author named Lauren M. Davis accused another author, Marve Michael Anson, of plagiarizing her work

the tweets seem to be deleted now, but from what i remember, Anson’s book has a black main character who has sun powers, and Davis says her book has a black main character who has sun powers and thinks that this is her own original idea do-not-steal and that Anson MUST have stolen the idea

Davis proceeds to threaten to sue Anson over her “copyrighted” work over twitter and each tweet she makes gets more and more racist

key points here:

Anson’s book is Firstborn of the Sun (this is also the tweet that started Davis’ racist dumb tirade)

Davis is white and Anson is black

Davis’ book actually has nothing to do with a black main character with sun powers (at least the first book, who knows about the sequels)

i’m sure there’s screenshots of the tweets somewhere, but this sums up the gist of it!

what are your favourite genres? what books make you happy?

My favourite genres are mystery, thriller, sci-fi, Japanese lit, & magical realism!

I really love reading other people's favourite books. I love the insight it gives into people around you, and it really makes you closer to the person who recommended it. Those are the books that make me happiest to read. (I also really love cute books that remind me of my fiancé and I - but I'm pretty bias when it comes to that!)

Genres You Rarely Read?

Horror and thriller! I'm a complete wuss and I can't cope with it very often because I'll freak myself out 😅

Do You Read Non-Fiction?

Yes, but not as much as I like. Over the last few years I've had a lot of academic reading to do because of university, so I've not felt like reading non-fiction in my free time. However, I do want to start reading more! I've started reading a few books here and there (mainly history or literary criticism) but I intend to make it more of a goal once I've finished my PGCE.
