Book Review #60 of 2026--

Platform Decay by Martha Wells. Rating: 4 stars.

Read from May 8th to 10th.

I absolutely love Murderbot. With its anxieties, stress watching tv shows, and trouble dealing with humans, it is basically me but badass. There's just something so comforting about watching a Security Unit saving its humans by hurting (and sometimes killing) other humans (and other Security Units). In this one, we follow Murderbot as it travels through a Torus that surrounds an abandoned mining planet and saves its humans. This takes place not too long after System Collapse which was nice. It also features characters we have met before, some we've never met before but have heard of in other books, and some we've never met or heard of before now. I always enjoy reading about characters who are attached to Preservation and meeting another one of Mensah's partners was fun. We also had Murderbot interacting with small children for what I think is the first time in the series and it was as cute and heart wrenching as you would expect. Murderbot is softer in this one than I anticipated and it was a little weird to be honest.

Overall, this was a good entry in the series. I had fun and enjoyed being back in the world of Murderbot. I'm hoping the next one we get will feature more of those characters we already know and love so much.
