Of the few of the spicy books that I’ve read that are popular on booktok, I’m wondering why are they so popular when they are so dry and lifeless?
Also, the more of these books I read the less I understand the “men written by female author 🤩” thing. Cause a lot of the male characters I see people thirst over are trash. They’re either generic bad boy types (which the bad boy is a trope I already don’t enjoy) and/or super emotionally manipulative mega powered men who usually don’t worry about anything else except getting attention from the main female character, even though they’re like lords, crown princes or kings.
Most of this is coming from me trying to read through the Kingdom of the Wicked trilogy and being bored out of my mind. I don’t like boys enough to just see a broody bad boy character and start swooning (I mean I dislike broody bad boy characters on sight generally, but I’m always willing to give them a chance. But my mind is usually never changed). Wrath is so boring, he’s literally just a robot of cliches. If Emilia were a stronger character, it wouldn’t bother me so much, but she’s not well developed. And the story is written in 1st person and is full of her repeating herself over and over, it downgrades any enjoyment of her character, I might’ve had.
I have a lot more complaints, but I’m too lazy to do a full review. I suppose what I’m really mad at is that people keep hyping up spicy books that I want to read, but when I read them they’re never interesting enough to want to get to or even enjoy the spicy scenes.
