Okay, the Willow looks weird here in issue 5. Did they get a different artist? Or do I just have wrong memory?

Okay, the Willow looks weird here in issue 5. Did they get a different artist? Or do I just have wrong memory?
Characters I want In the Boom! comics in some semblance, at least for a cameo:
Kate Lockley, Amy Madison, Wesley Wyndam Pryce, Lilah Morgan.
If they give me them, I will be Boom!’s forever.
I want to be excited for the new Boom!Comics for Buffy, I do. And I admit, I am intrigued, but I am also hesitant for many reasons. All of them personal and idiosyncratic, rather than some broader issue with the core notions, really:
I don’t like the notion of two distinct continuities, especially for Buffy. For one, opinions from one continuity are very likely going to color my view of the same character in another. I mean, for example, while I didn’t always dislike her, these days, I really really don’t like Anya. So I am already moderately annoyed at her inclusion (so very early) in the new Boom!Comics. But, to be fair, Anya could very well work better for me - the reasons I dislike her in the show are idiosyncratic (and also, tbf, related to fandom nonsense as well). But still, opinions from one will influence opinions for the other. Plus, it loads expectations on me (and others will do the same), which, while unreasonable, are also probably unavoidable. And it’s just... not tidy, to my sometimes anal-retentive mind. (This is one of the reasons I haven’t and likely won’t ever read DC or Marvel comics)
My faves from Buffy are Amy, Cordelia, Xander and Faith. Add in AtS and you bring in Wesley, Lilah, Illyria and Kate. Amy, Wesley, Lilah and Illyria are either never going to show up, or will almost certainly be extremely minor. I highly doubt they’ll be there at all. Amy is a minor niche love, Wesley was an accidental character in the sense that he was supposed to die in Season 3, Lilah is fairly minor in the grand scope, and Illyria is... well, Illyria. Polarizing and around for like, 8m episodes at the end ofone season. Kate too, is minor and unpopular, relatively speaking. Faith may show up, Cordelia and Xander are set to, but we know that Cordelia is going to apparently start as part of the core trio, so god knows if I’m going to actually enjoy the new Cordelia at all, and god knows what they’re gonna do with Xander. Both characters have very situational severability. And I can assume Xandelia’s never gonna happen to. And while, yes, I’m sure its possible I may love the new and distinct versions of all the characters - maybe Boom!Anya will be my most favoritest of characters, or whatever, but still. I’m not likely to see the characters I know and love most in truly recognizeable ways.
I’m not a huge fan of the way comics pacing tends to work. Comics always seem to move things forward faster, more extreme, more over the top, than TV shows and Books. And that over the topness doesn’t usually work for me. So... the very choice of a comics medium for storytelling is a concern for my idiosyncratic tastes.
Those are just the most coherent, and I don’t want to rain on the parade of people looking forward to the Boom!Comics, but... I’m... very, very, very ambivalent. I’m not gonna be spending money on these until people are spoilering the first few here on Tumblr so I have some idea if I like the way they’re taking characterization and the story. But I’m not very hopeful, honestly.
Anyway, so well behind the times, I have finally caught up with Issues 0 and 1 of Angel and Issue 5 of Buffy, and I remain consistently blown away by the storytelling quality.
This is some excellent shit. Really captures the essence for the times super well. Doesn’t quite have the witty banter of the original, which isn’t surprising given what appears to be minimal direct involvement from Joss, but also, there’s not really the space for it anyway.
But still, this is some really good shit. I just wish the issues were longer and I didn’t have to wait as long between issues.
“Confront Buffy about skipping School and then ground her forever!”
ROFL.
Okay, seriously, everyone’s eyes look fuckin’ weird in this issue. Creepy.
Seriously, wtf?
Hm...
Okay I know that it’s just my Xandelia shipping instincts here, but still, that little bit from what I’m guessing is Cordelia’s blog set them off.
Which is still, but also
I’m Xandelia Trash.
I bought the volume edition of Issues 1-4 of Boom!BtVS, even though I have all four issues seperately, for two reason:
1.) It’s nice to have them all in one one, slightly more durable book. This way I can seal away the comics and still re-read the issues.
2.) I want do give Boom! all the money so they keep publishing more issues for years to come.
