Tap Home 1: This is the first time I'm hearing about the distinction between diurnal and nocturnal fae. Perhaps there weren't such terms during my time. It appears that I align with more diurnal species, but there are so many factors that leave me unsure.
Tap Home 2: Ortho tends to be a bit too high energy for me at times. What I really find astonishing though is just how fast he's able to adjust and blend right in. This era's machines are really impressive... I admire his curiosity and motivation to learn.
Tap Home 3: How exactly were the craftfairies able to get the magestone Crowley requires so easily? Aren't there protections in place? People watching over it? Anything? It doesn't feel like it should be any of my business, but now I've been pulled into the ordeal too.

Unique Magic: "Concealed Treasure" - The caster conjures a pocket dimension, physically represented by a glimmering pearl. The caster can teleport themselves or others (the more people, the more blot) to said dimension as a means of protection or transportation or jail. Wherever the pearl is placed will work as a marker for where the affected will next appear during teleportation at the will of the caster. They can also teleport from one pearl to another (using more pearls actively also increases blot and adds more strain when trying to cast other spells, thus requiring the caster to frequently deactivate their UM). To those unaffected, it will just resemble a normal pearl. Destroying said pearls will break the spell, leaving the affected in the location of the destroyed pearl and the caster momentarily stunned by the fluctuations of magic.

Summary: Hailing from the depths of the Coral Sea to find a better life for herself and her guardian, Sophie has taken it upon herself to discover everything life up on land has to offer. Despite many knowing her as the sweetheart of the Octavinelle dorm, she still struggles to adjust to the unbridled chaos of her peers after having lived a very sheltered life.
Having lost a battle in the war of genetics will lead to that when you are a siphonophore merfolk. Being born an extremely long jellyfish that can be torn apart by any wrong turn could leave anyone a hermit. Luckily, by acquiring a specific transformation potion, that is no longer a worry...though there are some side effects: chronic pain, fatigue, and dizziness. Nevertheless, Sophie will take that over her life in the ocean any day.
Though, she doesn't let this disability define her. She works incredibly hard, remains self-assured, studies often, and remains kind through it all. She is an unrelenting force to be reckoned with, making sure to teach those who try to look down on her or underestimate her a lesson whenever the opportunity strikes. She often struggles with certain social cues, whether that's knowing when the appropriate time to speak is or picking up on someone's true feelings/intentions. While this can make it difficult for her to know who is friend and who is foe in a school like NRC, she refuses to let that stop her from meeting new people and learning their stories.

Author's Notes: SOPHIE. sophie. i love her very dearly, she's my daughter who can do absolutely no wrong (she can) (she's certainly not twisted from a villain, but she can), but i've delayed this post for so long that i deadass forgot what more i had to say other than the fact ive grown to be very attached to her.
She is minimally inspired my ariel's treasures, but i wouldnt say she is twisted from it. she's more of a jack howl esq character. If anything I took more inspiration from my own experiences with disabilities, flares, and neuro-divergency. framing chronic pain among other things as just another hurdle to surpass in order to enjoy life with sophie has honestly helped with a lot of my internalized dread on the matter (im frequently bedridden, but im not going to let that stop me from living my life! sure there are things "average" people can do that i just cant at times, but i still want to accept that im a person deserving of friends and love even if im not in a spot where i can be productive). sorry that got deep for a second LMAO and here i was saying i forgot my notes.
even then calling it a 'hurdle' leaves me wondering. is it only a hurdle cuz i live in a place that was never designed for people with my specific flavor of brain and body? Unique Magic: Stolen Heart - Previously known as "Ignited Heart," Stolen Heart is a highly warped version of Akuhata's unique magic he originally acquired a long, long time ago. While previously giving them a way to easily shift from a more defensive style of magic to offensive, the spell is now highly volatile and out of their control. Rather than being cast, Stolen Heart coincides with Koa's emotions. It is ignited by a fiery rage and grief of what was lost, leaving himself and everything around him burnt, charred, and overrun with the flow of lava. While this gives him an extreme boost in firepower, he is unable to control deactivation of the spell. Interference of a third party to calm them down is required for them not to overblot...again.

Summary: A subdued and somber student which clawed out of the depths of Styx. As a long-lasting fae with magic fueled by nature, he is temporarily attending Night Raven College to learn about the changes of the world after a decades long overblot... or centuries, maybe. He isn't quite sure. Styx's records can only tell them so much before they can only imagine what happened prior to their overblotted-self's capture.
Having finally come back to reality for unknown reasons in the modern day, Koa's past is blurry. He's gained skills he doesn't remember learning, speaking languages he never remembered speaking, and finding parts of himself he never recalled losing. Though these phantom memories can only go so far. As a powerful fae attempting to heal and regain control of his power, he has sense been put under the supervision of the Shroud brothers at Night Raven College.
Why on earth is he being sent back to school? Akuhata wonders that as well, but Styx seems to claim its for the purpose of reacclimating to the times, whereas the headmaster claims its simply about hospitality... or garnering influence from the media's inevitable curiosity. Regardless of the chaos, Koa remains seemingly calm and collected. He's garnered a reputation among students for being well-mannered, forthright, and well-spoken while also being very avoidant to any type of advances. He keeps everyone at a distance whether he knows their well-intentioned or not, but he still tries his best to learn and readjust as he was instructed to by Styx. It's just another bad habit he picked up from some unknown time that he'll have to unlearn.
CHARACTER PLAYLIST
Author's Notes: VERY VERY DELAYED, but he is here!!! I did a TON of very interesting research into specifically Hawaiian and Maori culture for this character- given one of the main complaints among Pacific Islander people was that Moana just pulled from a mishmash of different Island cultures- so I really wanted to zone in on more specific details with this character :D Overall it was very fun to learn about!!!! I definitely want to do more with his design and character in the future- I'm hoping to insert more mythology inspiration into his backstory once I'm able to flesh it out a bit more.
Besides all that- I want to focus on themes of grieving and healing with Koa. The brief mentioning of the fact that Malleus was not in the same level of danger compared to other overblotters was VERY interesting to me. The blot monsters are meant to drain mages magic until they die, but strong fae are able to drain magic from nearby nature. Hence this cycle- that never really would end as long as there is plant life around. And I was like- wow that could be absolutely horrific if you put someone in a seemingly endless loop of emotions like that. and hence. akuhata was born. I am nothing if not a lover of angst.
40 hours of work- just around 200 peoples ocs in the twst community (as such there may be some small mistakes on my end and sometimes i couldnt find refs with all the colors so i did my best!! Honestly im sorry if i missed you too even if its impossible for me to get every single person HFNDJXDHV)
