i am tired and my body hurts but this is normal at this point.
yesterday we did chicken processing, 300 birds, a full complement-- this group was lucky, suffering no heat stress in the mail and also being fortunate that the Dread Weasel that is out there just fucking going ham on all the other groups missed them until they’d grown too big for it to attack, so the mortality was almost none in this group.

So, no help is coming.
Moreover, the livestock assistant manager had to drop to part time a while back for health reasons, but it was fine because the assistant livestock manager from the previous year was around and underemployed, and he was willing to come work a bunch of hours, and that was fantastic while it lasted, but he got hired for an $18/hr union job harvesting marijuana so he’s gone now too. Which sucks. But good for him.
No one will be present to help Veg Guy harvest on Friday, since both existing apprentices have that day off. So I spent today harvesting flowers, and would spend tomorrow doing the same but it’ll be raining-- I’ll have errands to run anyway-- and then hopefully I can do the rest of the flower harvest alone on Friday, so Sister can help Veg Guy, because harvesting vegetables alone is prohibitively difficult and time-consuming.
I’m working the market Saturday, and then there’s just no way BIL will be able to come along on vacation the week after. C’est la vie.
Anyway I’m tired, and sore, and I’m going to sit for a moment but then I should go help with chicken pickup. Farmkid is out there, she’d decided a good game to play would be to impersonate a customer and see if her dad would sell her a chicken on credit. I don’t know what her plans were, once she had a chicken.
its weird lately because it’s like i’m two people. There is me who is depressed and i just want to cry and stay in bed, feeling sorry for myself and writing sad poetry, when depressed me goes to work i’m moody and paranoid and i can feel how horrid everything is on my skin like its itchy.
