Mad hatter with a Borrower
First things first you better believe that Jervis calls you Dormouse
Originally you first met Jervis during one of his low moments. You were heading home from a borrowing excursion, making your way across the top of the kitchen cupboards when you spotted him. head against the table, looking completely miserable. You pause at the sight immediately feeling sorry for him but despite how bad you feel you still have no desire to get caught so you move along. But as the days go by you notice that his mood hasn't changed, if anything he's gotten worse (you're certain that you've heard him crying on more than one occasion). Eventually you decided that enough is enough and you are going to do whatever you can in hopes of cheering him up. was this an incredibly unwise and a risky move all-round yes but at the same time you couldn't bear to see him be so miserable anymore. So, you ended up leaving him a small flower that you were able to borrow from a neighbour's flower pot. Placing it in his tea cup where you knew he was sure to find it and it worked. Early the next morning you watched from a safe distance as Jervis stumbled into the kitchen intent on making himself a cup of tea, only for him to stop in his tracks as he spots the flower. Making his way over to it you watch as he picks it up examining it, confusion turns to delight as a small smile spreads across his face. It's the first time you've seen him smile in weeks and for the rest of the day he seems to be in a better mood, so you keep doing it. Every day you leave him a flower (sometimes a small bunch of them when you're able to get them) and every day his mood seems to get a little better. You should have known that it was only a matter of time before you got caught. It happened one morning when you went to drop off a flower as usual only this time you find Jervis fast asleep at the kitchen table and despite the fact that you knew he could wake up at any moment you still approached. Little did you know but Jervis wasn't asleep he had woken up and was watching you with some curiosity. It's when you place the flower down that you suddenly become aware that you're being watched, slowly turning around you come face to face with Jervis who offers you a small smile. You don't get the chance to run as you're quickly grabbed. Panic overtakes you and you end up bursting into tears which causes Jervis to panic as he starts desperately trying to calm you down. Eventually things calm down and you end up chatting with Jervis for the rest of the day, and slowly you realise that you wouldn't mind spending time with him more often.
Yes, Jervis has made you a bedroom inside of one of his tea pots, complete with a little ladder so you can get in and out of it easily. and yes there was also an incident where a severely sleep deprived Jervis nearly accidently poured boiling water on you after mistaking your teapot for one of his others. Luckily you were able to catch his attention before anything happened and he was extremely apologetic afterwards.
you still have your own home underneath the floor. It's located beneath the china cabinet and despite Jervis begging you refuse to tell him where it is. The last thing you need is for Jervis to know where you live (you might be friends but that doesn’t change the fact that Jervis isn't always safe to be around, poor boy has got a lot of issues) in fact you've gone so far as to set up a second home within the walls just in case he ever figures out where your first one might be.
Let's you ride on the brim of his top hat.
Helping him whenever he makes tea and even teaching him some of your own personal tea blend recipes that you have created over the years or that were passed down to you by your parents
Him getting you your own miniature cup and saucer, which he bought especially from a high-end doll shop. He has to use a pipette to fill it as a regular teapot just spills everywhere.
Him reading "Alice in wonderland" to you whenever you both have a quiet moment. During your early days of getting to know one another he was shocked upon hearing that you had never heard the story of Alice in wonderland and insisted on reading it to you. Now it's one of your favourite activities to do together, sometimes you'll even take over and be the one reading to him.
Uses his mind controlled mice to make sure you stay safe whenever you go borrowing (there like your own miniature bodyguards)
gifting Jervis various trinkets you find while borrowing and him using what you've given him as ornaments for his hat or as part of his outfit.
And as a counter point Jervis gifting you little things that he finds when out and about. pretty ribbons, new pieces of furniture, food, flowers anything he thinks that you may like or find useful.
Him getting very fidgety whenever he sees you climbing. Now he knows you're very capable after all you've survived this long without any help, but he still can't help but worry whenever he sees you up high. He'll hover and not so subtlety inch closer to you until he's within catching distance should you fall. You've also noticed the appearance of multiple pillows and other soft things that didn't happen to be there before and all place in spots where you usually climb. When you confront Jervis he will make some poor excuse before quickly changing the subject.
Unfortunately in many ways Jervis is worse than Edward when it comes to not letting you do things for yourself. A small part of him knows he's being unreasonable but the rest of him does not care. Whenever you try and do anything he deems dangerous or difficult for someone of your size, he'll take over and finish it for you, ushering you off and telling you that he will handle it. At the end of the day this all stems from the fact that he cares deeply about you and is terrified that he won't be able to protect you. There have been many nights where Jervis has lain awake worrying himself sick that something bad will happen to you. This has also led to many arguments between you two that never really get resolved and sad to say he is not above manipulating you until you come around to his point of view.
Jervis being very gentle when holding you. This stems from years of handling lab mice, so he knows exactly how to pick you up and hold you so you're both safe and comfortable.
Having to hide whenever Jervis is having a really bad episode. Unfortunately there are times when Jervis goes deep into wonderland, completely lost in his role as the mad hatter and is unable to be reasoned with and in all can be incredibly dangerous. When this happens you usually end up holding up in your home until Jervis snaps back to reality whenever that may be (you have even started keeping a reserve of none-perishable foods and other essential supplies for just these occasions). sometimes when things get bad you end up having to call Jonathan to come over, as he is really the only one who can talk Jervis down when he gets like this. it never take much to convince Jonathan to come all you have to do is mention that your scared and he'll be over in a shot. When things get really, really bad you'll sometimes end up staying with Jonathan or Edward (they've both developed something of a soft spot for you after getting to know you while working with Jervis) and while you do enjoy their company you would much rather be with Jervis.
Continuing with that train of thought immediately getting chills when Jervis calls you Alice.
Accidently picking up Jervis speech patterns much to the annoyance of anyone who is listening as you'll both just be there taking in rhyme for hours on end. You also find yourself quoting "Alice in wonderland" a lot more in your day to day life.
whenever Jervis is in a really good mood and there happens to be music playing he'll invite you to dance. Using his hand as a make do partner or sometimes just picking you up swaying you both in time with the music.
Jervis making you little outfits. Jervis is quite handy with a needle and thread and before you know it you will have an entirely new wonderland/cottagecore theme wardrobe catered perfectly to your size. Though if cottagecore isn't your style he will happily make you anything you want, letting you choose the fabric, style and colour. you purposely avoid choosing anything blue themed as you don't want to risk accidently triggering Jervis delusions.
Doing multiple craft projects together. When Jervis is not working on his mind control devices or figuring out his next big scheme, he likes to indulge in little craft projects as a way to wind down and relax and in your case crafting is not just a fun hobby but an essential part of your life. Most of the time you'll both have your own projects that you're working on, content to just share space while each of you does your own thing, occasionally chatting and stopping to drink tea every once in a while. But every now and then you'll team up and make something together. At the current moment your both working on crafting a giant quilt together.
Jervis can't resist buying you plushies. It started off when he found a small Cheshire cat toy he thought was cute and thinking that it might be something that you would also like he got it for you. You immediately fall in love with it as not only is it extremely soft, Its perfect to snuggle up to or lie on, but not too big that you can't carry it around should you so wish. Little did you know the monster that you have unleashed. From then on Jervis insists on buying you plushie's no matter how much you protest that he doesn't need to. And that’s how you end up with a small collection of not just Alice in Wonderland plushies but anything that he thinks is cute or that you might love. Your plushie collection has its own space on an armchair within the living room, and you love nothing more than to curl up and fall asleep on top of them. Jarvis thinks you look absolutely adorable whenever you do.
Your first time meeting Edward and Jonathan was an experience. It was during one of Jervis's less than lucid moments and he had insisted that you join him for tea. You know by now there is nothing you can do when he gets like this so it is best to just play along and hope that he snaps out of it sooner rather than later. Little did you know that there were going to be other "guests" at this tea party. To say you nearly had a heart attack when you caught sight of Edward and Jonathan would be an understatement . The duo were tied to chairs adorned in Alice in Wonderland themed costumes and sitting across from one another at the head of an elaborate tea party and neither of them looked very happy to be there. the moment they both caught sight of you, you wished the ground would open and swallow you up instead you had to make do with hiding in the tea pot.
"Jervis why is there a tiny person in the tea pot"
"oh that’s just the Dormouse, hare they've always been there"
cue confused and mildly concerned looks from Edward and John as they are desperately trying to remember if they've have seen you before or if Jervis has slipped a little something extra into their tea. It wasn't until sometime later when Jervis went to go brew a fresh pot that you were finally able to free Edward and Jonathan and give them a proper explanation. As usual it falls to Jonathan to get Jervis to snap back to reality and failing that slipping him a strong sedative so he doesn't cause any more trouble. Once Jervis has been subdued both are quite eager to leave but not before properly interrogating you for a good half hour, as while neither of them will show it, they are both quite curious and want to know more about you.
jervis hiding you under his hat so you're not accidently seen. This mainly happened before john and Edward knew of your existence. Though he will still hide you under his hat when the occasion calls for it.
Taking care of Jervis whenever he gets sad. Sometimes the weight of everything will become too much for Jervis to bear and he will slip into a deep depression. When this happens you do your best to take care of him, helping out in any way that you can. This mostly involves taking him tea, making sure he eats and just being there for him. You also make sure to give him lots of cuddles, going as far as to sleep next to him on his pillow/nightstand.
On occasion Jervis will talk about his research with you. One thing that is often overlooked about Jervis is that he has a brilliant mind and before delving into a life of crime he was an expert in neuroscience. It's not often that you'll get to see the scientist side of Jervis so when this happens you always try to engage and ask a ton of questions despite the fact that you don't always know what he is talking about.
You end up getting soaked in tea quite a lot when your around Jervis. Honestly you've just accepted it as an inevitability at this point. usually it happens when he gets excited and start to animatedly talk about the subject at hand, gesturing wildly and in the process dousing you in tea (he always apologies when this happens, handing you a cloth or napkin to clean yourself up with) . Another way you get cover in tea is when he is deep into his had hatter persona and he dunks you in a teapot were you have to avoid the very real risk of drowning (borrowers especially "innies" don't have the best swimming skills as it is extremely rare for them to encounter large bodies of water). You ended up fashioning a jacket out of packing peanuts to act as a life jacket just in case.
Writing letters to Jervis whenever he gets sent off to Arkham. After one of the first times Jervis got sent to Arkham after meeting you were quick to discover that Jervis does not do well when he's incarcerated (according to both Edward and john he's often a target for the guards and a few of the more corrupt doctors when you asked them about it ). So you make sure to send him as many letters as possible while he's locked up. Twice a week you make sure to write to him telling him about your day, what you've been up to and just general things that are happening during his absence that will hopefully help take his mind off things or at least bring him some comfort. It becomes a whole military operation to get the letters to the mail box, with you having to strategically plan every trip, mapping the route, gathering the gear and sometimes having to make specialized equipment. but come rain or snow you make sure that they will get there.
Jervis losing his mind over the fact that you can purr (again animalistic borrowers for the win) and him doing everything in his power to get you to purr. Cue a lot of trial and error as he figures out what sure fire thing will get you to purr. It's during these experiment's when he discovered that you also happy hum when you eat your favourite foods (you've seen those videos of cats murrping when they eat, yeah it's basically that). At this point you're pretty much constantly purring around Jervis much to his delight. And as a side note Edward is honestly a little bit jealous that Jervis is the only one who can get you to purr.
He once he accidentally smuggled you into a rogues meeting by mistake. You had fallen asleep inside of one of his jacket pockets not realising that it was the one he was planning on wearing that day, already running late Jervis had just thrown on the first jacket he could see and rushes out of the door. Half way through the meeting is when he finally realises he's got stowaway. He had gone to check his pocket watch for the time only instead of his pocket watch his figure to brush against something very much alive, unknowingly waking you up in the process. Quickly he excuses himself from the meeting before disappearing to a private space where he pulls you out from his pocket dazed and sleepy. one quick explanation later; on where you are and the importance of you remaining hidden. He is just about to put you back in his pocket but before he can Twoface walks annoyed that he's holding up the meeting and in the moment of panic he shoves you into his sleeve before returning to the meeting. You managed to stay tucked away until he returns to his seat but seeing as his sleeve isn't the safest place to be you start making your way further inside his shirt unknowingly tickling Jervis in the process. For the rest of the meeting Jervis is trying not to laugh while the rest of the rogues are giving him odd looks.
Accidently getting into Jervis's stash. While most of Jervis work is tech based he does also use a mix of chemicals and mind altering substances. Which you unfortunately ended up stumbling upon one day. thinking that they were just ordinary tea leaves you didn't hesitate and brewed yourself a cup of tea. Next thing you know Jervis is finding you sprawled out on the kitchen counter staring at nothing and talking nonsense. It takes a moment for him to figure out what's happened but when he does he makes a mental note to keep his stash somewhere where you can't get to it, in the meantime he now has to deal with a very stoned borrower.
Like with Edward you have also been taken by the Batman. However it was unfortunately under much darker circumstances. Jervis had managed to acquire a new Alice, some poor girl who clearly did not want to be there. She was tight to a chair at the head of an elaborate tea party, wearing the classic blue dress as Jervis forced her to play out the role of Alice, with him as the hatter and you as the dormouse. At first you try talking to Jervis, attempting to persuade him to let her go, Unfortunately nothing you say works he's too far gone. so you're left with only one option and that’s to free her yourself. It's while you're attempting to help her escape that things take a turn for the worst and you end up imprisoned within a glass jar. Jervis is extremely disappointed with you and no matter how much you try to argue and plead with him you just end up making things worse. he's so mad that he's twisting up his words to the point where they no longer make any form of sense (it's honestly the worst you've ever seen him and your actually staring to fear for your life). He ends up taking the girl and leaving you behind at the abandoned tea party and that’s where Batman finds you some hours later. In the end Batman was able to stop Jervis and free the hostage and it's while you're watching Jervis being carted back to Arkham that Batman offers you a place to stay. You end up agreeing, needing sometime to process everything. but it's only until Jervis is back to his usual self.
Jervis obsession with Alice causes a huge rift between you two. You care deeply for Jervis and will do just about anything to see him happy, kidnapping is not one of those things and you don't want any part in it. It's gotten to the point where you're actively sabotaging his attempts by giving Batman a heads up (he ended up giving you his contact info after one particularly bad incident) whenever he's got a new Alice. You just hope that Jervis never finds out because you know there will be no recovering from this, any and all trust would be broken and your relationship would be well and truly shattered. Overall while your relationship does have its bright moments there will always be that underlying darkness.
Jervis getting jealous whenever you spend too much time with Edward or Jonathan. After your first meeting you end up hanging out with the two on a semi regular basis and while Jervis does like the fact that you get along with his quote on quote friends that doesn’t stop him from getting huffy when you spend too much time with them instead of him. You can always tell when Jervis is jealous as he will start acting like a disgruntled rooster. There have been many occasions where Jervis will interrupt your conversation with some poorly made excuse before scooping you up and taking you away. Edward and Jonathan are constantly using his own jealousy against him and you have become one of their go to methods for teasing him.
Hopefully this turned out ok. Jervis is quite an interesting character to write for, As I wanted to capture his sweet silly whimsical side without downplaying his darker tendency's. balancing out his dark and light side. hopefully I was able to do him justice. Anyway I hope you all enjoy ^_^
