Botanical Bundle Dyeing with Fresh Flowers

Ya know…I didn’t think I would be into this, but damn this bundling dyeing thing was so much fun! We collected some sulfur cosmos, plains coreopsis, dyer’s chamomile, marigolds and Queen Anne’s lace. (I might have gone a little off script and experimented with sumac and red clover.) On a white cotton scarf (pre-treated with mordant, which is the real-time saver here) let your inner fairy run wild with drifts of petals or be measured and intentional in your pattern. Roll it up tightly into a log, then coil into a cinnamon bun. Tie up snuggly, then steam for least one hour. When cooled, FWAP to unroll…and ta-da! Enjoy your beautiful creation…

Newest dyed skein. This was hand spun by my neighbor who raises her own sheep. It’s absolutely gorgeous yarn, so of course I HAD to try dyeing it. This color was achieved over 8 hours of hot dyeing using cherries. Needless to say, I’m in love.
