He barely heard anything at all. Annabeth was going to say a lot more, though she didn’t know what. Thinking of Percy in the past tense made her stomach twist so uncomfortably that she barely had the first sentence written before she abandoned the speech completely.

#yes closeted people should be allowed to to interact with queer spaces without having to come out #and yes out people who have risked a lot to be out should be allowed to be annoyed when people they don’t know identify as gay insert #themselves into queer spaces #both can exist #there IS risk with coming out #which is why closeted people are valid #no one should be forced to come out and no one should feel they have to come out #HOWEVER because coming out is a RISK to your career - to your life - you DO get certain privileges that come with it #(I loathe to use the word privilege here but let’s just go with it)#being out means you are allowed to have MORE say than an ally #I know that stings to hear but again BEING OUT IS A RISK #you CANNOT be closeted and expect to have all the perks of being queer with none of the downsides #I’m sorry if that sounds shitty and unfair and whatever but thats…that’s how it is #in actual queer spaces #with actual queer people #in a lot of queer spaces we are aware allys are probably closeted people #but ally’s (closeted people) are still meant to make way for openly queer voices #BOTH CAN EXIST #BOTH ARE CORRECT!#and arguing about this kind of thing is just… exhausting because everyone is right #anyway clearly HSHQ is run by straight people because they couldn’t see this coming #when every queer person in fandom has seen this as a problem since 2017 #okay back to work
