thanks to the amazing @bottled-jellyfish i got a commission of my gemsona, lepidolite! he was a gem that used to be in the court of pink diamond, and was moved to blue diamond’s court when she was ‘shattered.’ below the cut is information on lepidolites, and a wingless version!

lepidolites were created on earth, though pink diamond was not the one who ordered it. after she pleaded with the other diamonds to preserve the life on earth, they set up the zoo for her. however, they needed a specialized gem to catch them. this is where pink diamond had her influence- she created the lepidolites with her own ideals in mind- kindness, compassion, and a love for the earth. despite this, they were still little more than poachers.

lepidolites range from being small in stature to average height, though they have many similar features- longer, softer hair, soft bodies, and pale coloration to make them seem harmless. they would approach humans and request to play with them, before abducting them and taking them to the zoo. 

by nature, lepidolites are playful and curious, and care very much for the humans they play with. they ensure they’re safe, and knowing what happens to colonies, are eager to take them somewhere safe. they give off an aura of mischief at times, and were often the inspiration for many human stories of fairies.

all lepidolites have some measure of control over the air and wind, similar to how lapises have control over water. wherever their gem is located, they are able to manifest a spectral pair of wings or such to help them float. when angered, hurt, or in danger, their aerokinesis can become quite violent, and some unruly lepidolites have caused major windstorms, twisters, and hurricanes.

this particular lepidolite (just called ‘lepi’ for short) was a caretaker for humans in pink diamond’s zoo, and particularly close with pink. she gave him the bow he wears, as a token of her favor. before her shattering, the lepidolites were free to play with the humans and care for them- but all of that changed when pink diamond was shattered. lepi was actually present on earth with her, having come with her to potentially find more humans. he was not present for his diamond’s shattering, but he was present for the aftermath.

after his diamond was shattered, lepi, along with all other lepidolites, were integrated into blue diamond’s court, and the zoo fell under her command. all production of lepidolites was ceased. half of the lepidolites stayed at the zoo, but they were no longer permitted to interact with the humans. instead, they took care of day-to day operations- the closest they get to humans is speaking to them as the ‘little voice.’

the other lepidolites returned to homeworld with blue diamond, acting as her personal grieving party. whenever blue would get sad, the lepidolites would try to make her feel better, but being emotional gems, they often ended up crying with her. lepi, upon meeting her, was requested to remove his bow, the gift from pink, and this caused him a lot of pain. as a result, he elected to stay at the zoo, and only saw her when she visited. 

lepi’s wings are based off of the wings of an atlas moth, the largest species of moth. his gem is a cabochon located on his back, giving the impression that his wings come from them. he has been very sad since the shattering of his diamond, but that could change very soon...

Not even a year ago, I met you on a Zeldastuck rp forum, and realized in short order you were ‘Kera’s friend with the amazing art skills.’ I was ungodly intimidated--and you were unspeakably nice. More than nice even--supportive in such an intense and unrelenting way it was unheard of, kind of startling.

It was you who introduced the idea of self inserts--having me turn and look at myself and what I wanted for the first time since elementary school. It’s been one of the most daunting exercises I ever tried, and ultimately the most rewarding. I’ve even gotten to the point of giving Megan her own blog, @midnighttoybox so I can keep compiling her profile regardless of whether I’ll ever use it for anything. It keeps me in touch with me--and your unending support and enthusiasm keeps me from lapsing into doubt.

You have things so much harder than you deserve to, someone who shines brighter than the sun with warmth and energy and imagination and life. You’re going to get out in the world and find it’s cracks and crannies and live there, gleefully and eccentrically electric. A kitchen full of witchery and a life full of love, and every happiness--you deserve it.

Happy Birthday, Jelly--my life is forever changed after meeting you, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
