Trick or treat! 💖

The summer Halloween spirit continues - thank you still for your trick or treat ♥ A few days ago I went to visit "The Delphinarium", it's the only marine park in the Netherlands which houses dolphins (and harbour porpoises!). It always makes me happy to be there and see the animals.

It also inspired the latest photo study - this one based off one of my own, featuring Morgan the killer whale! 15 years ago she was rescued and brought to our Dolfinarium to recover.

This was from when I first saw her, two months after her rescue. She had already regained some of her strength but she was still so small and skinny. It is incredible to see how far she has come, living in Loro Parque now with her second calf by her side.

Once again I tried to be stricter with my time; I still ended up doubling it to 40 minutes. I hope you like it!!

Which makes me want to share some pics of a 2016 trip to Dolfinarium. One of the first open days of the year + lots of young dolphins in the lagoon = a very fine day indeed. I spent hours playing "tag", racing along the window with one, two, three dolphins in tow. Everyone was going ham over my sketchbook and eraser. And even some of the adults wanted to say hi. One of the most wonderful dolphin days I've had.

I actually visited the Dolphinarium Harderwijk a couple months ago with my mother and companion. Unfortunately it was very hot. It was quite enjoyable! It was nice to see the porpoises and dolphin. The main area though was very green and clouded with algae which made it hard to see.

Have you been to the one in Brugge? It is technically closer to me, though I would rather sit in trains than busses.

Hey, cool to hear that you also visited the Dolfinarium Harderwijk this year! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself despite the heat. I always love seeing the porpoises, such a unique species to be able to see.

The main lagoon is indeed quite susceptible to algae blooms. When I was there the water was super green, it was almost impossible to see the dolphins unless they were right up to the glass. It's due to the water being real seawater, with only biological filtration. With all this sunshine, algae were bound to bloom! It's a lot better in winter. I've seen it range from soup to almost clear over the years. I do think it adds a lovely natural feel to the exhibit!

And no, I have never been to Brugge. However I intend to visit this year! What do you think of that park? It seems a lot smaller than the Dolfinarium with less exhibits but that's just based off google.
