Tips for the legend of Zelda breath of the wild, does contain spoilers:
You can shield bash guardian lazer beams right back at them, learn to time it by the dinging/beeping noise they make while charging, make sure to z-target them
Anything made of wood is a potential torch, alternatively the bombs glow in the dark fairly well
You can burn any patches of thorns you find with fire whether it’s fire arrows, an arrow you light on fire (you can do that by drawing your bow and moving so there arrow touches the fire of a torch or campfire), fire weapons etc, same goes for ice blocks
Stasis works on just about any enemy, including moblins on horses (steal the horse if you want, they’re tame) and the keese/bat flocks to scare all but one off, it works on flying guardians and guardians in general (note: I think stasis only works on enemies after being upgraded)
Exploit daruks protection, if you’ve played majora’s mask and used your shield to protect you from the bomb mask it works about the same. it works on bombs and bomb arrows going off in the volcano. It also works on the moldulgwa sand worms in the desert
You can block guardian lasers with stuff you pick up with magnesis
You can squish a chuchu to death with a well placed rock
You can do the Mario kart over rev up/burnout thing with the motorcycle from the dlc, you can hop off the motorcycle while doing this sending the motorcycle screaming off into a set direction, it still runs things over and distracts enemies
Octorok balloons can lift most small things, including bombs and rafts
Ravali’s gale can lift platforms suspended with octorok balloons
Hit a yellow chuchu jelly then a blue chuchu jelly next to it to set off an electric shock
Lizalfos won’t see you from under their chins
Light grass on fire to create a temporary updraft you can use to glide, bomb arrows also work I think
Use the ice rune to cross rivers
Cary a stalfos skull around to scare off wolves
You can Mario jump on a bokoblins head with the shield surfing jump, you can shield surf pressing ZL to raise your shield press x to jump and A to jump into the shield, shield surfing does deplete your shields durability though
Flurry rush activated by a well timed dodge to the side or backflip or by jumping and using a bow, you can pull off the bow flurry rush by letting go of your glider and pulling out the bow while falling but flurry rush does deplete your stamina
How to tame a horse easily: glide right behind it, let your stamina recover, hop on
The painter in kakariko village can help you figure out where the memory landmarks are roughly
Stasis a Boulder (or log, or metal door), hit it a bunch, climb on before it launches, enjoy the ride. hop off and glide before it lands
meat freezes in frozen climates and enemies try to eat any meat they see lying around, the meat can freeze as an enemy is trying to eat it which is both funny and a longer distraction
In a pinch with no weapons? Bomb rune, want to get rid of a bunch of enemies at the bottom of a cliff? Bomb rune bowling, bomb runes can also be used for fishing, bombs also make a decent light source if you can’t use a torch
Ninjas love bananas, use them to stall them in fights
Cook during the blood moon to get extra boosts
The hot springs in the volcano region heal hearts, you can also use them to boil eggs
Find eggs by cautiously hitting cuccos or climbing trees, you may be able to get meat if you slay a cucco
If you hit a squirrel it just drops an acorn, certain birds also drop nuts
If you hit chuchu jelly with an elemental weapon it changes its properties, also works if you drop them in burning or freezing temperatures, elemental chuchu jellies explode and cause element damage when hit and can be used as a trap
Meat freezes and cooks in certain temperatures
Elemental weapons can cool you down or warm you up if equipped which is useful for surviving the rougher climates
Rain makes it hard to climb and you can get struck with lightning when carrying metal, throw your metal weapons at enemies when they start sparking and the lightning will hit them
Enemies can be distracted with meat and food items
The Drill spear (found in elfin canyon) and sledge hammer weapons are good for mining, so are bomb runes but they may send the gems flying so be wary
There’s the double minecart flying glitch but personally I’d rather not use it
Give endurra carrots to a horse to increase its stamina temporarily
Horses with a solid color tend to have better stats but horses with a mixed color are easier to tame (eat stamina boosting foods while taming one if you need too)
Feed any dogs you find meat and they will lead you to a secret treasure chest
Durians found in the forests in Faron are great if you need to make a lot of food that heals a ton of hearts, you can find bananas around there as well and those grant attack bonuses
The sea side town has a ‘guess the chest’ game you can use to farm rupees with enough patience and saving
You can buy a house in hateno village but it requires a lot of wood and rupees
Save your monster parts and guardian stuff it’s useful later, sell a few gems if you really need the rupees
If your dying of heat in the desert areas you can use whatever shade or water you can find to cool down though it doesn’t last long
If there’s a treasure chest next to the name of a shrine on your map you’ve gotten all the treasure chest in that shrine
You can get the thunder helm by completing all the major quests in gerundo town and then talking to Riju (one of the quests will also give you a way to get berries very easily)
Things you can tame and or ride: deer, the larger deers(stags), bears, the spirit of the mountain, stal horses, I’ve yet to see if anyone’s ever tried the rhinos, bears, lynel (they hate it and will kick you off but you can get in a few hits) you’ll want stealth bonuses from elixirs or the Sheika armor though
You can customize your horses at the outskirt stable, but they have to have max bond
You can charge your horse into enemies, including guardians, go for the guardians legs you can cut them off to immobilize them and I think for extra machine parts
Dragon parts (specifically horns) add to the effectiveness of food when cooked
Fairies can also do this, a fairy cooked by itself makes a fairy elixir
Weaponize cuccos, they only attack the creature that hit them much like bees only hit the nearest target if you knock down there hives, no they cannot be used against ganon sadly
Chase shooting stars if you can, they only fall on full moons though and you can only see the beacons they emit at night, the best way to spot them is to hangout on top of a tower or mountain anywhere high up enough really and just wait for one to fall in the direction your looking, you can teleport around without it disappearing to get closer to where it fell more easily but it’s not going to be there anymore if you wait too long to go get it in general, cook what you find into dishes or sell it for a fair bit of rupees (dueling peaks is a good spot, the stable nearby has an npc that can tell you if it’s a full moon or not, might be the guy that talks about the blood moon but I’m not certain)
Never forget you can teleport at any time that’s not a boss fight, this includes when falling or in a fight with a lynel
A fire weapon can melt ice just by being close to it but it’s slower than just hitting it with the weapon
Throw rusted weapons at the rock octoroks, they might spit them back out fully repaired
Elixirs are a critter (bug, frog, or lizard) plus a monster part, the critter determines the effect (read the description to puzzle out what effect they have) and the monster part determines the duration
Don’t mix monster parts with regular food, unless it’s monster extract which has a few unique recipe variations, a guy at one of the earlier stables requests a royal recipe that’s actuall a cake made with monster extract
If you see travelers being harassed by monsters help them out by defeating the monsters then talk to them, they can give you some very helpful rewards
If you see an npc just standing around near or on the major roads, it’s probably a yiga, doubly so if it looks like they are crying or looking around for someone (one will sell you bannanas for 99 rupees a banana), they can have funny things to say and there weapons are rather good if they drop them, they also drop rupees and bananas
You can find traveling merchants on the main roads, they’re the npcs on horse back or with a donkey carrying their stuff, they’ll spend the nights selling things at the stables like beedle does and if you catch them in the rain they’ll give you some good deals for their wares, stables are good places to find side quests as well
The stables each have posters with a unique in game recipe inside the building
Stables will only board horses, stal horses don’t count though the reaction to trying is funny
Bombs can cut down trees and cut logs into firewood
In a pinch things like firewood and other rocks and gems can be used to make dubious food that barely heals any hearts, sometimes something is better than nothing, especially for the survival trials
Heavy weapons knock away shields
You can stealth kill enemies
Visit the ‘eye’ shaped island at that skull shaped lake in the upper right corner of the map, also visit the area of raised up land in the middle of a lake with a land bridge leading to it in the akkala region after buying and finishing that house, make sure stock up on wood
The monster masks can be life savers when you need to sneak around enemies, just be careful because lizalfos can puzzle it out if they lick you and lynels figure it out extremely quickly, everything else seems to only catch on if a monster that doesn’t match the mask spots you, be wary of chuchu octorok and keese as well as multiple monster types in the same area
The best place to find rare meat is in the snowy mountains, there’s also a guy at outskirt stable that will pay a fair bit for raw gourmet meat compared too shops
The rune upgrades are very worth it in the long run (faster recharge times, stronger effects, etc. plus in the long run the upgrades don’t cost much if you’ve been picking up guardian parts from shrines)
The guy that runs around gerudo town has a quest that will net you some boots if you talk to him while wearing gerudo armor
Snoop around gerudo town to learn how to enter the secret shop, also the jewelry shop can be unlocked by giving the owner flint
Gerudo town market sells all the elemental arrows at one stall if you need them
You can trade luminous stones for diamonds with a zora in zoras domain, easy way to make some cash
Take pictures of everything for the compendium (unlocked by doing the quests at the research lab, bye the quests at both of the research labs are very worth it) you can use the sensor to track anything you have in there including chests, critters, etc. some quests require pictures of odd land marks of the ‘you’ll know them when you see them’ variety and of certain enemies but note that having a picture of an enemy in the compendium is not the same as having the picture saved to the slate so don’t delete the picture until after you’ve turned it into the quest (a bit spoilery but a few enemies I know you need to take pics of are a lynel, a stal horse, all the guardian types to unlock a shrine, and the glowing rabbit),
if you are having trouble filling out the compendium you have the option of just buying the photos your missing from the guy at the hateno research laboratory after you do the quest for a picture of a sunshroom (which grow behind the lab)
If you throw torch it will stay lit for a few minutes even while it’s on the ground, very useful for the lantern quests as you can make some shortcuts if your careful
You can learn a few new recipes by helping koko in kakariko village
There are typically two approaches to climbing the volcano: make a ton of food and rush up to the Goron village to buy fire armor, or make a bunch of fire elixirs and take the path, if you take the path there’s a midway point with a bunch of Gordon’s mining the surrounding area, one of them has a quest to collect lizards that you can easily get by lifting the rocks in the area the reward for this quest is a piece of the fire resistance armor
All armor is useful, try to get every set you can and upgrade them at the three fairy fountains to unlock the set bonuses, you can also dye your outfits different colors at the dye shop in hateno village
There is a forth fairy fountain, cross the horse god bridge and follow the path to the dead end to find it
There are two special horses in the game, there’s two quests one for each horse that will tell you roughly where to find them, neither are very easy to tame so tackle it when you have more stamina
Make sure you have a fair amount of arrows when visiting shrines, some of them require it
If you see a blue bunny looking creature, try to shoot it with arrows as many times as you can before it runs off, they are easiest to find near kakariko village, also take a picture to see the name
If your in a area with ruins or that looks swampy, or with a lot of water in general use magnesis to look for chests
If you throw a skeleton arm it acts as a boomerang
A metal boomerang can be caught with magnesis mid flight and basically used as a weapon
Boomerangs are effective for hunting birds
If you have a wooden shield you can use it to farm arrows by letting bokoblin archers hit it, the arrows will get stuck in the shield and if you put it away the arrows will be put in your inventory, you can also retrieve lost arrows by going to where they landed and picking them up
Daruks protection apparently works on fall damage when shield surfing?
You know those shrine puzzles when you have to get the ball through the maze like that one mini game at the fishing hole in twilight princess, you can flip um over and solve them that way usually
Get on top of a guardian if you can for a free ride
The motorcycle provides a lot of light in dark places (an easy way to beat that one trial north of lost woods, that or climb the volcano and glide right into the middle of it)
A fast enough horse can apparently get you through the lost woods
If you quickly run in a small circle with a one handed weapon and hit the button to attack you will use the first level spin attack (rather than hold the button to perform a spin attack)
Guardians can drop power cores but it is a rare drop (this is important to get the guardian armor but you can just try to get cores from shrines, on the topic of armor you can also find climbing gear and barbarian armor scattered throughout various shrines) theres also a pile of guardian parts behind the lab where you can get the armor
You can sneak strike the yiga clan members in their base
There’s a gerudo in goron city that will but jewels from you in sets of ten for a higher price than the shops will normally pay for them
You can drop bombs while gliding
