This also gives a lot of significance to the line in the last act of harrow the ninth where gideon says "Living inside you—if I start I’ll never stop, so we have to move on—was like living in a well, and every time I bobbed to the surface I kind of got clotheslined back down to the bottom. I’m not complaining, I just want you to know."

Was alecto there with gideon, pushing her back down to the bottom?

Alsoooo Judith mentioned the tower in her bout of madness, nona said she was afraid of it.

Also if harrow is headed towards a tower and gideon and ianthe are both tower princes??? WHAT DOES IT MEAN

The consensus so far is that the tower is canaan house, which probably has some unfinished business with John. Like in gtn when harrow suggested a secret room and Abigail said the same thing in htn.

So much of gideons life was a whole lot of build up and a disappointing climax.. she always wanted to be in the cohort but it was nothing like she thought.. she wanted to sacrifice herself for harrow but harrow wouldn't let her .. she wanted to die but she couldn't... she wanted parents but they were shit ... she wanted to be important in the world but it didn't give her the satisfaction she thought it would... she wanted to kill crux but it didn't change how sad she was .. idk where I'm going with this but Yeah.

EDIT: OH MY FUCKINF GOD I JUST REALISED ITS BECAUSE OF HARROW. Gideon has everything she's ever wanted: status, a position in the cohort, a parent. But there's something missing, something she's always had up until now, and that's harrow's attention. The saddest girl in the universe is only that way because she has everything she's ever wanted but it means nothing without harrow ...

Nona constantly marvelling at how pretty she is vs alecto perceiving herself as hideous and resenting John for giving her such an unappealing form :((( and she's earth made flesh so its sadder when u realise that Earth thinks she's ugly but its John that made her 'ugly' ... there's layers to this guys I just don't know how to articulate it (which can be said for so so so many things in this book 😭😭)

So apparently kiriona is a maori name (and a maori transliteration of gideon) and it is so incredibly beautiful to me that the despite giving up on quite literally everything, John wanted his heritage to live on in the form of kiriona (FKA gideon). like earth is long gone and dead but he's making sure the maori spirit never dies... this book was packed with so many forms of love but this one really hit home
