Why does my brain keep trying to feed me an au where Vlad has dementia and Danny has to take care of him because in the present they have been partners for 100 years.

They thought they’d live forever. Thought they’d survive anything. But now Vlad’s memories are foggy. Some days he recognizes Danny as they had first met. Some days he doesn’t recognize him at all.

Most often he seems normal. But they both know his memory is getting worse. There’s no cure, even Clockwork said that this is what the course of time would always be. Inevitible. No one is safe from time. Not humans nor ghost nor something in between. They’re always been aging. Just a lot slower.

So Danny cares for him. Even when he starts to pace around the lab and yell for *Danielle* or Jack or Maddie. Even when he turns into Plasmius to fight him because he doesn’t remember that they’re not enemies anymore. Danny stays by him.

One day Clockwork comes by. Danny’s confused but he warns him that Vlad’s end is near. Of course, Danny knows that. He can tell in the way that Vlad’s eyes linger far off on nothing for too long. How his smiles have become more of a habit than anything recognizable. How he would hesitate to kiss him, because of course he isn’t quite sure who he is or where he is.

Danny knew. Clocks didn’t have to tell him.

Clockwork gives him a medallion. Something temporary he was working on. It wasn’t a solution but it would allow Vlad’s mind to turn back for only a single day. Turn back to before the memory loss.

Danny knows what that means. A temporary brain rewind for Vlad. For one day only. Undoubtedly, his last day.

Robby and Jack were on their way to a remote village to administer vaccinations when their vehicle came under attack. The crash left Jack with a badly damaged foot, and Robby had to drag him to safety, evading the local militia as they fled. Forced to move constantly, hiding by day, running by night, they also lost nearly all of their gear and supplies in the wreck. All Robby had left was a small packet of penicillin, tucked into his pocket and long forgotten (and wouldn’t even matter in a tropical world).

At first, Jack’s wound didn’t look life-threatening, but without proper medical care or clean water, infection set in fast. The river/cenote nearby was too contaminated to do anything good, and their limited rations offered no solution.

Robby did his best to keep Jack’s spirits up, and scouting for food, searching for shelter, even as he himself began to show the first telltale signs of illness. Despite his efforts, Jack slipped into a coma as the infection overtook him. Robby fought off every threat he could, wild animals, hostile patrols, starvation, but deep down he knew they were running out of time.

Jack’s fading fast. Robby stayed by Jack’s side, too afraid to blink, even though he knew deep down that all he could do was delay the inevitable and only prolong Jack’s suffering.

So he gave up, no more wound care, no more scavenging rainwater, and simply curled up beside Jack, letting nature take its course for them both.

Robby would be like: “Jack, you did great, man. You can let go now. I’m sorry I failed you. I won’t be far behind. Thank you for everything.”

Jack, even in a coma, his stubborn arse held on. Deep down he knew that if he let go and Robby walked out of these damn woods alone, Robby’d carry the guilt for the rest of his life.

And in no universe Jack was going to let that happen.

Lucky, local hunters discovered them. And they were picked up by evac.

Caught myself thinking of het fitzconte in a 60s trad family setting (JFJ as a perfect housewife, Dundy as a typical husband).

Everyone envies their perfect life, Dundy’s colleagues secretly envy him for his perfect and attentive wife, neighbors want to have their ideal relationship and a cover magazine house. A perfect example of a traditional 60s family.

Only it’s not what it seems, and it is not what it is.

Someday I swear I will make a franmaya comic too. I'm just... analyzing their characters and darn I want them to have an overemotional conversation. Don't even know if it will end up being explicitly romantic or not but I want them to talk. They are such interesting characters and the scene in the lobby after the BTTT trial (where Franziska questions how she can seem fine despite what happened, and Miles says his two cents about it) just screams the need for a discussion between them. Do they have a significant day or something? Does franmaya day exist? I can put it on my calendar so I have an occasion to do it for maybe. That tends to motivate me hahaha
