Happy (belated) Social Media Day, Tumblr! On June 30, businesses and advertising agencies worldwide celebrated Mashable’s fourth annual Social Media Day. Social Media Day celebrates the role social media has changed our lives. In such a short period of time, social media revolutionized nearly every job market and changed the way people communicate and keep tabs of one another.
Last week, Beth had us develop a small campaign to tell the world––through social media––that Gatesman+Dave is celebrating this holiday. We created shareable content across Facebook, Twitter, Vine, and Instagram.
Our biggest project was infographic for Facebook. We wanted to create a shareable piece that conveyed both Gatesman+Dave’s role in social media and its place in the city of Pittsburgh. So we came up with map that tracked the histories of both social media and advertising, and laid it out across Pittsburgh’s rivers to show how they converge to become one concept. Nowadays, social media is an integral method to execute campaigns. The discussion that sites like Facebook and Twitter spark is perhaps the most viable platform for businesses to interact with their target audiences.
Chelsea designed the map, and Erinne and I populated it with important facts and dates. Chelsea also made a cover photo for Gatesman+Dave’s Facebook page and a video highlighting ways the agency celebrated in-house. Erinne and Andrew shot videos for Vine and Instagram. Yes, the videos are only six and 15 seconds respectively, but you’d be surprised how much planning went into each of them. You can see our complete work at the bottom of this post. It was great seeing a project from start to finish. As with all of our work, we got to see it out in the “real world,” outside the walls of the agency. Best of all, people we didn’t know liked the content we made.
This week marks the halfway point in our internship. We can’t wait to spend five more weeks creating projects like this one. Hopefully time won’t fly by too quickly.
