Happy International Women’s Day! Today on my commute and lunch break and when ever I’ve been walking I’ve been listening to this incredibly important book #bravenotperfect. I can’t wait to get back to it on the subway home. What would our lives look like if we followed our dreams bravely without trying to be perfect first and without the crippling fear of failure? The bravest leap I’ve taken in my life so far - to have a child on my own- is also the best and most fulfilling choice I ever made. I’m not advocating Single Motherhood for everyone but this book is a must read - especially for parents of girls. Realizing all the ways society encourages boys to take risks, fall down, pick themselves up and keep going - to be brave; whereas girls are taught to be good, to not take risks, to not get messy, to do everything perfectly is so eye opening. My daughter is only 2 and hasn’t started to pick up on gender differences yet. She has scraped knees bruises and is scarily (for a mother) fearless. She is already brave.
