#braz does conservatory

I know I don’t really talk a lot about what I’m doing with composing anymore but... I’m participating in the annual composers competition of the Dutch reed quintet Calefax. Just finished the outline of my piece and now I have to fill it in, make some countermelodies, good harmonies ( -_-) and such. 

I... have confidence in this one? That I may win? 

It’s partially a theme+variations concept and partially me kicking a melody and seeing in which key it ends.

ooh that’s a good one 

1) I’m a good composer for being 20 and only having one year of conservatory. No further composing education. 

2) Similarly with writing, though I have no writing education at all 

3) I have the kind of curly hair that many people only get when they use a curler and all kinds of products, except I don’t have to do anything for it 

4) I can cook well and I also like the process of cooking

5) I’m good with money and budgeting and not... impulse buying, that kinda stuff

Me: I should compose something... soff, nice, gentle, sweet

My mind: hnnggg super dramatic Yennaia waltz

Me: .... fine

Me: I'm sad, I'll compose music and be inspired by my sadness, for I am an artist

Music: is sad

Me: this isn't helping

Me, improvising on a piano: am composer, listen, I make cool melody

Me, doing actual piano exercises: ow my fingers

Me, a composer:  Watches the Witcher, gets the gay for Tissaia, makes a little melody on the piano that could be a theme for her. Then proceeds to say “no, I won’t immediately make a melody for the moment where she got metal powder thrown into her face”. That moment made my heart jump into my throat because I though she was gonna die.  Me, also a writer who knows what it’s like to be fuelled by suffering characters:  Immediately makes a melody for that moment. 

(The melodies are in alternating D phrygian and D melodic minor. Because drama)

Me: wants to write a story  Me: makes music for said story instead

My music theory teacher: “do you like counterpoint? That’s rare”

Me: “ehh no? Why would you think that?”

Him: “well, there is a smiley in your portfolio.”

Me: “oh... eh I just like the sound of a cambiata...”

I forgot to erase all the little drawings and smileys I had scribbled in my portfolio.
