I DID!  I stopped trying to make it fit the prompt that originally inspired it and realized I absolutely knew where it was going already.  Sometimes I forget to listen to my own brain.  :D

Jilly. JILLY. Oh, oh, this fic. It’s just utterly perfect. I know it’s not meant to be shippery, but shippery feels nonetheless. And I just love the idea of Sebastian smiling mostly when others do, a reflection of their joy, of joy in their joy.

Aw, thanks ever so much.  *hugs*  They're just so lovely in my head, I like letting them out.

(It's totally shippy in my head too, and I almost tagged it sebris, but I was trying to leave it open to interpretation for those people who don't ship them.)

ALSO THEY ARE ADORABLE.  I love how interested they both actually are in how their completely different worlds function.  

(plus the voice!kink.  Always the voice!kink.  Can I borrow Alec Newman and Eve Myles and have them voice everything ever?  *laughs*)

OUAT is a lovely series but at the same time incredibly problematic.  I am not happy with how some PoCs have been handled so far.  (Oh we're going to have Cinderella's Fairy God Mother be black!  Oh that's so cool!  NOPE LOL SHE'S DEAD NOW.  Or alternatively "HEY CHECK OUT LANCELOT ISN'T HE AWESOME?  LOLOLOL HE'S DEAD TOO.")

But I'm totally with you on wanting to see more of Mulan.  So she is/was in love with Phillip?  Why?  What happened to make her so devoted that she would protect Aurora at all costs even after Phillip died?  (Well, ok, so he might not possibly be dead but you get my drift.)  How does her story differ from what we [the audience] know?

Mulan is one of my favorite Disney heroines, and I wasn't even aware of the legend of Mulan until Disney decided to make the movie.  I really wish we could see more of her here too.

I am all about bringing in new talent, and I'm sure there are plenty of actors with talent who would love a big break like that.  I know that Asian-Americans have come a long way in TV/movies, but I still want them to keep making progress.  (As well as other minorities/oppressed groups that don't get equal screentime with white able-bodied actors.)

Shipmeme. Um, I'll try to prompt something I don't usually, so Sebastian/Merrill?

when or if I started shipping it.

I don't know if I ship it, but I find the idea a little intriguing.

my thoughts:

They're both surprising optimistic and open-minded ... and in a lot of ways they're the only two of Hawkes compatriots who really are interested in other people, in the who and the how and the why and making them happy.  Varric's interested in their stories, but I'm not sure that's the same thing.

Sebastian is willing to consider Dalish beliefs as compatible with Andrastian Faith, (which is perilously close to blasphemy according to everything else we've seen), and Merrill is willing to listen to The Chant, even if she thinks it has some holes.  And their faith, for both of them, is such a big thing, that a mutual dialogue about it could be amazing.

What makes me happy about them:

Well, they are two of my favorite characters.  They're sweet and loving and adorable and deadly and voice kink.  Merrill likes surprising people, and Sebastian likes protecting people, so really, as I said, fascinating potential there.

What makes me sad about them:

Well, the blood magic thing is undeniably a deal breaker for Sebastian.  And an inability to let go of his vengeance at the end, depending on what one thinks happens post-game, could quite likely be a deal-breaker for Merrill.  I'm not sure how well they'd last, if they ever managed to get started.

things done in fanfic that annoy me:

I've never really seen them in fanfic in any sort of romantic pairing.  (Except both of them trying to help a female Hawke once.  Man, that was spectacular...  I wish I knew who had written it, so I could find it again.)  But I do dislike interactions that make Merrill stupid or Sebastian condescending/self-righteous, because neither of them seem that way to me.

things I look for in fanfic:

Letting them both listen, and talk, and be nice.  They're both actually really nice people.  *see above*

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

Well, I ship Sebastian with everyone.  Merrill/Hawke.  Either gender.

My happily ever after for them:

I don't know. I'll have to think about that one more.  

who is the big spoon/little spoon:

Well.  Sebastian is absolutely a big spoon type. Plus he's gotta be about twice her height.  *laughs*

what is their favorite non-sexual activity:

I think they could both get lost in a library, even if they were aiming for different books.  I think they'd both enjoy a simple nature walk, even if they were admiring different things.  I think they could enjoy the variety around both of them.
