GCPAU by me!:3
I started the Breaktale comic in 2019, just before COVID hit. It contained all my ideas for my take on an "Undertale AU", a concept I had learned about and fallen in love with. I really looked up to the hundreds of artists who were making comics about their own AUs, and I decided that once my masterpiece was done I would follow in their footsteps.
In fact, I created this blog at first for the sole purpose of uploading my AU comic and anything that went with it. My masterpiece, a 200-page comic that to this day is my biggest finished artistic project.
My plan was to draw the majority of the comic traditionally, then make the last few pages digital before making an animation for the final boss. There would also be an epilogue that I would likely have gone back to traditional for.
I got sort of far uploading it, too! But as I began to expand my art and focus on different things, uploading a comic I had already finished didn't appeal as much, and as I improved both in my art and my writing, I started to tweak things about the story in my head.
I didn't want to keep posting a comic that I had both finished and no longer represented the story I wanted out of it.
Breaktale is not over, for sure! I'll keep revisiting it whenever I get the urge, and I have ideas for another story based after the events of Breaktale. But I have decided to leave the comic for now, and I've compiled all of the pages that exist in case you want the full story 2019 me came up with.
So this post will explain what would have happened, should have happened, and what did happen in my comic about some monsters and a human who unintentionally broke into their home.
(Also I just realized I already made a post explaining the rest of the story so you can just ignore that)
Prologue
Breaktale's story starts way before the first human fell into the underground, with a copy of Undertale that the player had hacked so they could kill Sans before it was scripted that they would be able to.
Because of this, the timeline is fundamentally changed, with certain events differing wildly from canon UT.
In this new timeline, after the death of Chara and Asriel, Asgore orders Alphys, his royal scientist, to begin researching ways to bring his children back from the dead. Such magic was forbidden because of the price: one life for another.
Wracked with grief over the loss of his children, Asgore kills Alphys and tries to exchange her SOUL for his kids', but it fails.
Additionally, Sans lost his arm and eye while defending Papyrus, all of which caught the attention of Charcoal, a version of Ink.
Charcoal decided to "fix" the timeline. He could not make the timeline what it once was, but he could make a story around it, scripting events that had happened in the current timeline because of the damage.
Thus, Breaktale was born.
Before the Story
In this new timeline, when Asgore attempted to ressurect his children, it worked. He exchanged a life for a life, leaving Chara and Asriel each with half a SOUL.
Asriel and Chara awoke, more powerful than before, due to Asriel being halfway in his God of Hyperdeath form, and Chara sharing his SOUL.
But Chara realized something wasn't right. As they were ressurected, they saw glimpses of the original UT timeline. How things were "supposed" to be. They knew their existence was "wrong", and hated it, so they came up with a plan. If they couldn't fix the timeline, they would erase it.
Because of Charcoal's direct intervention, Sans had all his memories of the messed-up previous timeline. This secret weighed him down heavily, and he withdrew from his loved ones.
Ruins
Frisk is the eighth human to fall into the Underground, and they are found by Toriel, who takes them to her home. This goes pretty much the same as it does in UT, with Frisk expressing a desire to leave and Toriel trying to stop them.
In modern canon, Toriel would talk a bit about her children who live in Snowdin, with it being implied that she doesn't talk to them much anymore. (This is because they remind her too much of Asgore's atrocities, and she can't be sure if they are really the same people they were before they died)
Snowdin
Breaktale Snowdin is also very similar to UT Snowdin, but Chara and Asriel are there too! Chara is surprised to see a human, and asks that Frisk entertain their brother, who idolizes Papyrus. (Chara has issues with this for some reason in the comic, but they wouldn't really have a problem with it in modern canon. They just want Asriel to be happy.)
Also, Papyrus is a young adult in the modern canon, and thus there is none of the "wait, flirting = possibly dating, possibility of dating a child = also a child?" confusion I had! I did not have a concept of any of the nuances of Papyrus' character when I wrote the comic as I was a lot younger, but now I do!
Frisk has a double battle against Papyrus and Asriel (Chara helps them for fun), and in the comic, they drop a hint about Frisk being in a double battle later. This is because my original vision for the final boss of a neutral/TPE route was that Frisk and Chara would face off against a manifestation of Chara's hatred (represented by Chara with their hood up), who had convinced Asriel to fight as well. I scrapped this concept early on, but there are hints of it throughout the comic.
Frisk fights the dog guards after hanging out with Sans at Grillby's diner (Grillby kicked them out for fighting), and after many puzzles and a lot of flirting, Frisk defeats Papyrus and goes to his house for their "date".
Yes, those are Error's pants. Yes, there are a lot of references in this comic
Papyrus and Frisk have a lovely platonic date.
Waterfall
Frisk receives a call from Chara warning them about Undyne, who they say is ruthless and won't hesitate to kill Frisk for their SOUL.
This is immediately contrasted by Monster Kid, who thinks Undyne is super lame and it's definitely not cool at all how she doesn't beat anyone up and is super nice hey do you think she'd get serious if a human fell down here?
Frisk falls into the dump trying to escape Undyne, and is greeted by Mad Dummy, who is in ghost form and just wants to shock people. They offer to teleport Frisk across Waterfall, but don't say where. Frisk ends up before Alphys' grave, just as Undyne walks in.
The fight goes largely the same as it does in UT, but Undyne is trying to keep Frisk safe from other monsters (by.. hitting them with spears.. wonderful logic there).
After the fight, Frisk goes to Undyne's house to hang out with her and Papyrus. After Papyrus leaves, Undyne talks about how Asgore was a kind man before the death of his kids, but snapped and became cruel. Undyne doesn't think she can give her loyalty to such a man for much longer. This is also why she doesn't want Papyrus to join the Royal Guard, and has been teaching him to cook instead.
Then her house burns down.
Hotland
In the abandoned Lab, Frisk accidentally awakens Mettaton, a sentient robot built by Alphys to capture humans, but has a passion for directing. Frisk hits its killswitch, which allows them to change its function.
Mettaton guides Frisk through Hotland's puzzles and its own gameshows that it devised, until Frisk reaches a section riddled with landmines. Mettaton's call fizzles out, and Chara calls to instruct Frisk.
After clearing the landmines, Frisk comes to Muffet's bake sale. They buy a pastry, but Muffet mistakes their coin for a counterfeit and attacks them until a spider tells her she was wrong (as an analogue to UT).
Frisk meets up with Sans at a hotel restaurant. He tells them that the person he was going to meet is running late, so he figures he should use the reservation anyway.
Sans explains how his job as a sentry is to capture humans, and he has his reasons for disobeying orders.
After, Frisk makes their way through the CORE until they are ambushed by Mettaton, who's programming has been tampered with. Simultaneously, the person Sans is meeting up with is revealed to be Charcoal.
Mettaton forces Frisk to act in a series of loose film interpretations, until it detects a virus and purges it from its system.
New Home
Sans calls Frisk to tell them that Papyrus' birthday is coming up, and asks that they come to Snowdin to help celebrate.
In Snowdin, Sans teleports Frisk and Undyne to the Underground Department Store, where the two struggle with picking out a gift. A monster recounts the Underground's history to Frisk.
ATTENTION:
Thank you for your attention
True Lab
In the True Lab, Frisk encounters the amalgamates and finds tapes from before Asriel and Chara's death. Mettaton tells them how the amalgamates came to be.
Judgement
Sans judges Frisk as a good person. Frisk goes to face Asgore, who is stopped by Toriel. Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, and Asriel all show up as well. Papyrus reveals that it was Chara that told them all to come here.
Chara reveals their motivations, and tells Frisk that with the SOULs of every monster in the Underground plus the six human SOULs, they will become a god and erase the timeline.
The boss fight would have been fully animated, with Chara able to use the attacks of every previous boss, as well as sending the Lost Souls against Frisk.
Lost Soul Toriel would talk about her inner conflict about her children and her fear that she's been neglecting them due to her own insecurity
Lost Soul Undyne would talk about her guilt surrounding the previous humans that she'd killed
Lost Soul Papyrus would confess his frustration at clearly being left out of the loop about important things and his persistence in joining the Royal Guard to prove himself
Lost Soul Asgore would talk about how he hates who he's become but doesn't see a way out of the violence and rage
Lost Soul Sans would talk about his stress regarding all the secrets he's keeping, and that he doesn't know how much longer he can keep up the charade
Lost Soul Asriel would profess his concern about Chara, and how he knows they've been keeping things from him, and that he would be there for them if they'd let him
The fight would end similarly to the Asriel fight in UT, and Frisk would convince them that they and their universe still matter, even if they're not the original.
Post-fight, Asriel berates Chara for not letting him help them through things, and Chara resolves to do better. The barrier is broken, and the monsters make their way to the surface, some for the first time.
Epilogue
Sans would reveal all he knew about the timeline to Frisk, and promise to tell everyone else.
WOW!! That's a lot of story!!! Thank you for reading this far!
Once again, here is the link for the full comic!
I'm creating two Au's! The first is called brokentale and the second will be called gardentale, inspired by the game Undertale, I am anxious and I hope people like my idea~ ‹3
