LET FRANCIS IN
FRANCIS KNOWS WHAT HE DID
(Here bc "the bee post" made it's way to my dash 8D) I've been told that using honey from a local apiary is better for you than just "name brand" stuff you can buy at grocery stores, since the bee's are pollinating from plants in the area. Is this true? Like besides which, heck yes I'm gonna support local businesses, I'm just interested to know if it's true (and why, I guess)
Well, some people believe that local honey can help with allergies. There hasn’t really been any scientific proof of this (yet) but there are lots of people who swear by it, and my seasonal hay fever is way better than it used to be. And I didn’t think it would actually help, so I know there’s no placebo effect going on there.
Store honey is microfiltered to get out all the tiny bits of pollen and wax, because it looks prettier to have nice clear honey in bottles. Thing is, those are the bits that can help with allergies. They also pasteurize it, which keeps it from crystallizing for longer but also kills some of the flavor.
Also, it’s better for the environment. No/minimal shipping means no wasted fuel. And, of course, you can know where you’re getting it from and support local beekeepers, which is awesome.
