You may have dismissed the execution of Ser Alliser Thorne and Olly in Game of Thrones season 6 episode 3 as one of the show’s many CGI tricks, but in fact the actors really hung - at least in the literal sense.
That hanging scene from S06E03 where Jon Snow’s four murderers were executed was more realistic for the actors than viewers realized.
Number of Episodes: 10 Running time: Approximately 55mins per episode
As the Starks are attempting to get Winterfell back they must come up against the other noble families of Westeros for the Iron Throne.
Season 6 really does pick up where season 5 left off in terms of the adventure and the stories of the different characters. Each playing their own part in the battle to rule from the Iron Throne.
Jon Snow continues his journey back south of the wall after being brought back from the dead of course and tries his very best to get a bigger army, but the fact that Wildlings are going to be fighting for and with him is not something that other noble families are very impressed with. He is still eventually crowed King of the North, working with Sansa. She shows some fantastic character development showing she is not as weak as everyone may think!
Tyrion is left in a position of power while Daenerys is held captive. Something that allows more brilliant scenes with a character who could well be my favourite overall, I seriously need to decide if that is the case. Something else that I feel season six confirms is that Cersei is one of the worst characters in terms of nature and the horrible things she actually does, along with Ramsay who is awful in every single way possible.
The High Sparrow is to gain more power by influencing King Tommen who really does not have anything it takes to be a King and rule the seven kingdoms. The Tyrell army attempts to free Margaery and Loras but that doesn’t really go to plan at all.
I felt as though we get some fantastic scenes with the White Walkers and learning more about how they were created and why they were created. Even if they seem to have evolved past this point now. Bran is becoming obsessed with being in his visions that he is actually forgetting about those around him in his current life.
As you go through the ten episodes it appears that so many different alliances are starting to come together with the end in sight really, each having something for themselves in mind but surely that is what you want to ensure when you are pledging to support someone who could then take the throne and rule the Kingdoms.
Don’t worry though plenty of brutal death scenes are still involved as normal don’t love a character too much as you never know when the final episode featuring them might just happen. Although I am sure the death in episode nine will really give everyone so much pleasure! I actually enjoyed that one even more the second time round.
Therefore another fantastic season that really builds everything up into such an interesting conclusion that you don’t really want to end. It leaves you really wanting to see what happens next, which I guess is a testament to how well made and engaging this series really is!

Season four certainly continues in the same fashion as the previous three and at times becomes even more epic in terms of some of the scenes. Not forgetting more epic deaths, remember no-one is ever safe in Westeros.
Dealing with the aftermath of the The Red Wedding and the death of the King of the North, this leaves the remaining kings still battling for the Iron Throne claiming that they have right to it. The Night’s Watch are going to be tested as well as they must get ready for a battle with the free folk beyond the wall.
King Joffrey marries Margaery Tyrell and we get a very early brutal yet satisfying death, this then takes up a lot of the season as Tyrion is put on trial for the death of his nephew. Even though we all know he did not do it or have anything to do with it, Sansa Stark is quickly taken away from King’s Landing as well. So once again she is moved somewhere else.
Pretty early on in this season I realised it was going to have my worst death and that involves a skull cracking! Seriously I feel that one is the most brutal on the whole of Game of Thrones. I guess that is a huge statement considering how many deaths we get from start to finish, maybe something in season eight will be even worse? But personally for me that one will take some beating.
I felt during this season that the Night’s Watch are given some fantastic battle and fight scenes which makes for fantastic viewing in all honesty. They are pushed to the limits and we must really see what they are on the wall for in the first place. Keeping the wildlings out!
Daenerys seems to stall a little bit in development during this season, I just didn’t feel we go enough of her like in the previous three. But that is not a huge worry when you know what is to come. Still recruiting for her army and freeing slaves but not as much screen time for the mother of dragons.
Brienne is given another task and allowed to continue by Jamie Lannister who seems to get more likeable as everything goes on and progresses. Podrick is named as her squire and that is a rather nice pairing. As she must try to find the Stark girls, Arya who is now with the Hound. A very unlikely friendship and another good pairing! We have plenty of these pairings as they travel to different areas across Westeros. Not forgetting the progression of Bran and realising his powers, certainly a very good part of the story.
The adventure side really does progress well during this season and that is certainly a good thing to watch, something that really does impress me from start to finish. Now we know that this is the half way point in the battle for the Iron Throne. Naturally ending with some more death and cliffhangers!

The second season in the epic series that is Game of Thrones is mainly based around the War of the Five Kings. As many feel they have a claim to the Iron Throne! This creates for some fantastic moments.
Following the dramatic death of Ned Stark, I mean come on I still haven’t got over it from watching it years ago let alone now. I thought he was going to be the leading character throughout the full series so still a very huge shock! The Stark’s end up pretty much seperated across Westeros and are not entirely sure where the rest of the family are.
Stannis is introduced as a new character and we get to see some very strange scenes with him, which take things to a different kind of dark level. Joffrey who is unsure about his claim to throne with the rumours of his true father. This leads to Robert’s bastards being slaughtered, but one manages to escape from King’s Landing with Arya of all people. As she pretends to be a boy in order to survive. We really see some great character development for her throughout this season which really is great to watch. I actually love the scenes she shares with Tywin who has no idea of her true identity but has worked it out that she is not a commoner.
Theon Greyjoy is to return home to the islands in order to get the support for his father for Robb Stark. This doesn’t go to plan and his character begins to change, a character that I really do hate. Although maybe not quite as much as Joffrey. His turning on the Stark’s is probably one of the most frustrating things in the series.
We also get a lot more with the Night Watch, Beyond the Wall and how Jon Snow is getting on trying to survive. You might want to turn away with the Craster situation living with his daughter/wives. That’s right then we still cannot get away from incest, this show certainly has plenty of that going on! We get more about the White Walkers and these scenes really are amazing to watch with the different effects that are used.
The Lannister’s and Stark’s are at war and Sansa and Jamie find themselves being used as pawns with them being in the opposite camp. It certainly has lots of twists and turns with the same characters not to be trusted. A favourite of mine is introduced though in Brienne of Tarth who wants nothing more than to be a knight not caring about her female gender.
Daenerys also has some great scenes as well, she is certainly one of my favourite characters. Her story is brilliant and we eventually get to see those dragons, we have to wait quite a while though but it is more than worth it.
Everything moves at a good pace showing that not all battles involve swords. They involve tactics and deals being made which I think is something quite interesting to think about really. As when you think of war you immediately think about constant day and night fighting. That is not the case her showing that decisions must be constantly made.
