The Pea Coat, definitely a hot number for the cold season
The Pea Coat, definitely a hot number for the cold season #peacoat #classic #jacket #winter #navalstyle
A couple of weeks ago I predicted that the Deck Jacket would be a dead cert for the upcoming colder season. My reasoning was solid, in that if you stick to the classics you will always be golden, and even occasionally “in fashion”, whenever whatever spurious whims decide what happens to be fashion. This time we have another classic on the table, the pea coat, and like the deck jacket this one…

A couple coat of a singular beauty
This is like eh, another trend report of sorts. Double breasted everything is the current vogue in men's (and women's) fashions, you knew that already. Now for something you may not know. Because menswear has more or less reached the point where it is physically impossible to cut garments any tighter (or shorter) - we will see a gradual yet firm swing of the pendulum of fashion back to another extreme: 'big', 'oversize' and 'antifit'. Particulary in the field of so called 'tailored' outerwear, you can already see it happening in mainstream(!) womenswear. So menswear, in some (many?) ways its retarded little brother, ever the laggard, follows but with a slight delay.
Now I consulted my team of trend analysts and they suggest going long on old mil-spec coats, safely assuming you as a fashionisto ah style enthusiast want to look 'contemporary' but somehow not too fashionable. [Insert random Beau Brummell style quote here]. The old great-, guard's and bridgecoats are #menswear nerd's dream for a couple of obvious reasons. One. Lots of history and trivia to obsess over, which will allow you to keep telling yourself your not just a lemming following trends, oh no, you are continuing tradition and are a true connoisseur of heritage. Two. There is a coat for every budget, bespoke snobs can bespeak, thrifters can thrift, bloggers can Yoox, and the average Joe will buy off the rack in couple of years because the racks will be full of them. Three. Fantasy and romance, the ability to fancy yourself a soldier, you know a real man. Not some lame (sub)urban deskjockey behind a screen who commutes to and from a rapidly feminizing work place.
