GINGER SNAPS
2000, dir. John Fawcett
ginger snaps is obviously iconic and it’s one of my favorite horror movies of all time but one thing about it i don’t see discussed much is the mom.
she finds severed human fingers in her backyard and realizes instantly that her daughters have murdered someone. she’s seen the signs—they’re obsessed with death, late bloomers, outcast. she knows the statistics. and what does she do? she hides the evidence, convinces her husband they’re just props, and confronts her younger daughter by reassuring her that she’s not going to let anyone take her babies from her, and that they’ll just burn the house down and run away and start over somewhere else. without the dad, of course, because he wouldn’t understand.
A+ crazy mom, love her to pieces. pamela fitzgerald the woman that you are
