I don't know who wants or needs to know this, but here goes.
I'm French. And, as some know, may it be in books, movies, or games, when it comes to France, not only titles are translated but character names are changed too!
I've been hyperfocusing on Pokemon lately because I started playing Sword and, looking for fanart, I realised I couldn't find many because, guess what! I wasn't using the right names! So here are the gym leaders' names from pokemon Sword originally vs what we have in France:
Milo -> Percy
Nessa -> Donna (I actually prefer the original for this one)
Kabu. (Yeah, he's the only one that survived. Congrats to the Hoenn Grandpa)
Bea -> Faïza
Allister -> Allistair (it's just written in French but still. P.S: Kinda like the demonic ref due to him being a Ghost type Champ.)
Opal -> Sally (they did our girl dirty with that one. #Bring back Opal
Gordie -> Chaz (this one legit made me laugh)
Melony -> Lona
Piers -> Peterson (what were they thinking? And I'm saying this for both names)
Raihan -> Roy (my beloved)
Leon -> Tarak
Bonus part with other characters:
Hop -> Nabil (his name lost connection with plants and so with his role as a future professor, I believe)
Marnie -> Rosemary (both are cute)
Bede -> Travis (I'm keeping the French one)
Rose -> Sherhoz (I don't even know anymore)
Even the names for the towns are different, but I'm not going to dive into that. It's almost 2 am. in the freaking morning. So I'm leaving you with this!
