Judges say definition of women and sex in Equality Act 2010 act refers to biological women and biological sex
The UK supreme court has ruled that the term "woman" and "sex" refer to biology, not "a person's acquired gender, regardless of whether they held a gender recognition certificate"
This is "a victory for gender critical campaigners", such as "For Women Scotland" who celebrated the ruling outside the Supreme Court in London, and are financially backed by JK Rowling
This ruling is focused on Equality Act 2010, an act that protects a heck of a lot of people, and it rules that trans folk do not qualify as women under this act so aren't protected by it. It allows trans people to be barred from "women only spaces and serves", such as charities, and it is a slide backwards
Apparently trans folk are still protected under the 2010 act against discrimination and harassment, which just appears to be a different section of the Equality Act, section 7, which protects trans folks from discrimination, but it defines trans person as:
"A person has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment if the person is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process (or part of a process) for the purpose of reassigning the person's sex by changing physiological or other attributes of sex."
It doesn't protect trans people from any discrimination they faced in the gender they present as, because the court has just ruled that trans women aren't included in the legal definition of gender, not under the Equality Act
