Notes: MP4 format. Filmed in 4K from the front mezzanine. Mix of wide shots and zooms. I think JMC is officially best Mary and Simu top John. Very minimal obstruction on the bottom left due to the head in front of me. Probably my third best capture (of which there are 9 at the time of recording). Includes bows. NFS forever except through master and NFT through March 24, 2031.

So after the Act 1 Creative categories, I am 4 for 12. Despite seeing the highest number of nominees (9 musicals and 4 plays) I ever have.

Clearly I just don’t agree with the voters this year. I can understand most of them but Buena Vista Social Club winning Choreography makes NO sense. Over Death Becomes Her??? And I didn’t see Boop or Smash but the choreo has been one of the most praised things about both of them. The dancing in BVSC struck me as fairly normal ballroom/salsa. Nothing too creative or exceptional.

On the other hand I’m not surprised at Maybe Happy Ending winning Book & Score. Yeah I thought Operation Mincemeat had a better book and preferred the score of Death Becomes Her but MHE was excellent. I think it will win Best Musical as well, but I was sure Suffs was going to get it last year after Shaina Taub won book and score and we all saw how that went

I get it, seeing some of your favorite shows not get nominated is disappointing.

It’s disappointing that so many shows that could have been eligible this year weren’t as they never had a chance to open.

It’s disappointing that there were only four musicals eligible this year. That being said Broadway isn’t just about musicals there’s also some great plays that were nominated this year!

Can we please stop saying that it’s a waste to have the awards due to the shortened season? The actors and crew members who were nominated worked hard at what they do and they deserve the recognition.
