Broken Images (Separatist Sympathizer AU)
This was the blurb page I typed up for the Separatist AU on my new RP blog because for some reason, despite never having played it, this is my new favorite AU. I thought I might as well post it here.
Verse Type: Star Wars AU (What If/ Alternate Timeline)
Time Range: anywhere from 26 BBY on, although from the beginning of the Clone Wars on (22 BBY and later) is main/preferred.
Character Age: 14+ (18-21 typical)
Setting & Character Overview:
In 27 BBY, after years of struggling within the Temple to fully master Jedi teachings, Etain turned 13. As no Knight or Master had expressed an interest in taking her as a Padawan, she was brought before the Council of Reassignment, a Jedi committee responsible for overseeing the Service Corps and deciding which apprentices were unsuitable for continuing training as Jedi.
In her main timeline, Etain was “rescued” by a timely intervention by Kast Fulier. However, in this verse, no such intervention came. Despite all her pleas and desperation, Etain was ordered to leave the Jedi Temple, the only home she had ever known, and report for a shuttle headed to a remote AgriCorps worksite on a Mid Rim planet facing starvation following a brutal civil war.
While technically such an assignment was "voluntary", Etain was not allowed to appeal the Council's decision, or even to request a transfer to the more palatable Exploration Corps. The only other option, only passingly eluded to by the Jedi Master in charge of her particular case, was to leave the Order and become a fully independent civilian. Seeing that as an unrealistic choice, Etain boarded the shuttle.
However, very shortly after her arrival at the AgriCorps worksite, open conflict between the weakened and divided planetary representatives and a more powerful intrasystem neighbor broke out. The Jedi encampment, consisting at the time of a single elderly master and a few new AgriCorps recruits, was immediately targeted. In the aftermath, Etain was presumed dead.
In reality, Etain was badly injured and was taken off-planet in the confusion by the invading force. Eventually she escaped into the Outer Rim. With her faith in the Jedi Order and the Force shaken, she made no attempt to return to her former home, instead resorting to increasingly desperate measures to survive in the Outer Rim.
By the outbreak of the Clone Wars in 22 BY, Etain has become a drifter moving from port world to port world in the Outer Rim in search of work. Her experiences of life in the galaxy far from the Coruscanti power nexus, her view of the clone army as an act of slavery, and her lingering resentment of the Reassignment Council has lead her to become a Separatist sympathizer. This, combined with a sharp need for credits, has lead her to do very minor, non-combative work for grassroots Separatist movements on various planets.
However, thus far Etain has resisted any effort to recruit her into the formal Separatist movement. She largely credits this to a mix of pragmatism and suspicion. Armed conflict in a rebellion involves heavy risk for little pay, and for all her criticism of the Coruscanti Senate, the involvement of Trade Federation and other extremely corporate interests in Separatist leadership makes her weary of the movement beyond individual planetary levels.
More than that, however, Etain is still at heart a woman raised with the Jedi Temple. While she has burned with her own cynicism, she still yearns to meet the more idealistic ideals of her youth. She isn't entirely sure it's just to take up weapons against the clones who have no choice in which battles they fight.
Additionally, as young Jedi close to her age have entered the field as Jedi Commanders and Generals, some part of her has still been afraid that if she were enter into the conflict directly, she might end up wearing the blood of a former childhood friend.
Nevertheless, if asked, Etain would deny both of these things.
In the mean time, Etain's focus is currently mostly on survival. She operates most heavily in neutral and Separatist leaning spaces in the Mid and Outer Rim, taking whatever jobs she can get with the skills she's developed in order to keep herself fed. She seldom stays in one place for long, trading work for passage to new worlds when she can.
