Tarokka Deck Commission (4/55): Broken One The Broken One card is the third card of the High Deck, and it represents defeat, failure, and despair; the loss of something or someone important, without which one feels incomplete. This one was an interesting exercise. Emaciated bodies tend to have weird proportions not like healthy bodies and not quite like skeletons either. And there's not a lot of references for them 😓 But I'm very happy with the result! I think I did a pretty good job in terms of feel and composition (can you tell I've been watching the Drawfee drawclass VODs?😅) Commission, ko-fi, shops, and socials all linked in bio! Broken One

Here’s a little something, or someone, who struck me like a lightning from the sky. This is the backstory for what is now my first round (by my standards anyway) OC! Meet the troubled space twink consumed by illness and obsession:

Broken One is not only shorter than his Brothers but not as well built and handsome. He is more slender, more average, with a less than perfect jawline and musculature compared to all of his Brothers. He looks more youthful with larger eyes and cuter, wider, more batlike ears. He is also very young, but old enough to know his way around the Velvet Glove where he is stationed, and to know how things are supposed to work in interaction with his Brothers (I'll get back to this).

So, (my take on) Horde Prime wants to have complete control and understanding of his creations and wants them to resemble him in all the right ways. Aberrancy really stings his ego, challenges that sense of superiority and complete dominion; things that are different, things you don’t understand, are scary. As a narcissistic psycopath, the response is that of disgust and rage.

However, because he is also very old and has an intelligence uncomparable to humans (he's not your everyday human abuser/habitual criminal) and he has a sadistic streak, he may also respond with intense curiosity to these deviations. When he senses one that tickles him just right, he may decide to not simply eliminate the deviation but to examine it, toy with it. And he is playing the long game.

Broken One is but one of these curious cases. For his height and appearance alone, the Brothers who took him out of his maturation chamber at the very beginning of his life instantly assumed he would be unacceptable to Prime. Without intervention he would have died 1 day old. But Prime spared him. Some of his less pleasant Brothers resented this, having seen others be culled for lesser defects. He was never told why he still exists so his imagination filled it in and he concluded he must be somehow special to Prime, that it was quite literally Divine Intervention. That started his fascination with Prime and he soon became obsessed with him, even for a clone.

He spent a few years meeting functional requirements, to the point where some of the Brothers who had treated him badly began to accept him as an equal, deserving of serving Prime. But soon, he found out that his appearance was far from his most serious defect; There was a defect in his hardware that allows for integration into the hive mind, embedded so deep within his body that replacing it would be considered a waste of time and resources. It never quite worked the same way for him. Everything felt different and - long story short - as his condition deteriorated and he kept the fear of living on borrowed time to himself, he ended up with deep psychological issues.

His only comfort was his worship and his sinful sexual fantasies of Prime. If there was something that could save him once he could no longer keep his constant malfunctioning to himself, it would be his God. He developed a delusion of having a special secret designation. He fantasized that one day there would be rapture, in the biblical sense, where everyone would see that Prime planned this all along and that he is important, he doesn't deserve to die.

His tragedy is that he was right all along - just not in the way he thought.
