Broken Radio
Peter Parker X Reader
Warnings: Some Fluff, some Angst, some smitten!Peter, too.
A/n: Everything really good i write, is written in 20 minutes. I don’t understand??? But here we go, one of the four fics for my 1,000th post!
"Dance with me," you ask, twirling along to a light song coming from the broken radio. "Come on, it'll be fun."
He stared up at you from his bed, a slight smile on his face. Moonlight shone perfectly on your hair, messy and falling in all the right places. With a breathy laugh, he pulled himself off the very comfortable bed. You snatched his hands in yours, quickly pulling him into the middle of the room. He stumbled slightly at your abrupt movements.
“Better,” you winked, a little act you did that made him blush easier than he’d ever admit. His eyes stayed on the floor, somehow, not able to meet your twinkling ones. Somehow, this night was different than the endless amount of other nights you shared together; there was an unspoken complexity, a shift in your interactions.
The room continued to get quieter, which seemed impossible. But the cars seemed to slow outside, and the radio went in and out of stations. He was suddenly aware of how close you were, and how still everything else was...not like it was frozen, just, like the way you traced patterns onto his neck with your finger, or how a slight breeze drifted in from his barely open window, causing fresh, crisp air to flow in. This awareness caused him to easily hear the slowing of your breath, and how your nails digged in deeper and deeper into his hands.
“I wish we could stay in this moment forever,” you sighed deeply, sniffling lightly. He didn’t quite know what you meant. Yeah, it had been nice, but you two had done this so many times before that it had become more of a tradition than an occasion. A beat past, and you answered his forming question before he could even ask it.
“I got a Stark internship, Peter. I’m moving upstate to be closer,” you said in one take, letting out a very shaky breath. Peter could tell that you were on the verge of tears. You grasped him tighter, as if he would disappear.
“Y/n, that’s... that’s amazing!” Peter searched for what was wrong, not sure why you were so upset. He never saw you so full of raw emotion. He could hardly speak, as well - he never wanted to see you like this again.
“Yes, no, I don’t know. Peter. I’m going to have to leave everyone, i’m going to have to leave you - we won’t have moments like these anymore, we won’t listen to 80s pop music anymore, Peter. I don’t know what I’ll do, without you.”
“Hey, y/n, it’s okay. Please don’t cry,” He weakly ran his hand over your arm. “You have to move, that’s okay. It’s okay. It doesn’t mean forever will be lost. We still have now, and now’s more than I could ever ask for,” he admitted, dryly smiling to try and cheer you up, then pulling apart slightly.
You wiped your brimming eyes, staring at him with reluctance. Another beat. And another. The radio went fuzzy, a car went by; another beat.
Then, your lips were pressed to his cheek. As quick and hurried as it was, he still felt his cheeks start to burn pink.
“Thank you for our traditions, thank you for making my life brighter.” You forced a smile, pulling him back in for the most meaningful hug. Warm and tight, neverending.
