You're trying to tag a user on one of your fics when you discover the tag doesn't work.

Your first thought may be they changed their URL, or maybe they deactivated their account.

There's a third (not so) secret possibility:

The user you're trying to tag has their visibility settings toggled to prevent searches of their URL on Tumblr.

Here's how to fix.

Keep in mind this is what the tagged user has to do, not the person doing the tagging.

Go to the gear icon, go to account settings:

Click on Visibility:

Make sure "Hide [url] from search results" is toggled off:

So I´ve posted my gifs around 4pm and right now you can´t see it in the tags. I really hope they answer my mail tomorrow and I really hope they finally understand that it´s their problem. 

@staff seriously you have a problem with tags but you ignore it? and it drains my motivation because i´m in a phase where i learn how to make better gifs. and it´s not fair to ignore this problem because tags are the main system here on tumblr. most people use it.

For the broken tags what happened is that tumblr changed the way that spaces are represented in tag urls. So for you’re drop down menu the fairy tail tag url is saved a fairy-tail but if you were to click on the tag the url is now fairy%tail. Annoying but should be a fairly simple fix.

FOR THE REFERENCE TO ANYONE ELSE WITH BROKEN TAGS. while it looks like a space on browsers like firefox, the tag "space" is actually %20

So tags with spaces in them, if you wanna have a tag list like me or need a new bookmark for them, it has that in there. Example: Team%20Gremlin%20verse is what the tag looks like on Safari's address bar. I went in and manually changed all my tags on the dag list from - to %20 and they worked for me again? On Safari anyway. Feel free to test them out. Also I added Demon in the Dark verse to the list like I've been meaning to for a long time now.

OK I think I figured out how to fix gifset posts with broken tags.

❌ Delete any one of the gifs in the set. 

🔁 Reupload the gif back into the set.

✅ Save the post.

Do not edit the text or tags again afterwards, but if you do and it breaks again, repeat the steps above.

So far I’ve tried this on 3 or 4 posts and it seems to work. If it works for you, please pass it on!
